12 Years A Slave stars plan next big roles in Marching Powder film and Star Wars VII

Lupita Nyong'o cast in Star Wars: Episode VIIFollowing on from the success and critical acclaim they received for their performances in 12 Years A Slave, Chiwetel Ejiofer and Lupita Nyong’o are planning their next big things. While it’s not going to be easy for them to match the stand-out brilliance of the Academy Award winning movie, the potential of the Marching Powder film for Chewetel and the next Star Wars movie confirmed for Lupita could see them getting even more recognition for their acting skills.

Deadline recently announcing that Ejiofer will be taking on the role of Thomas McFadden in a New Regency created adaptation of the Rusty Young memoir, Marching Powder. It’s a production that’s been in discussion for a long time, with Don Cheadle and Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, attached to it, but the latest news seems to indicate that we might actually be getting close to seeing the final product in the next year or so.

The film will see the 12 Years A Slave Actor taking on the role of British drug smuggler, Thomas McFadden, who gets caught and arrested in La Paz, Bolivia. The main story is about his time in the prison as he faces the danger of his first few weeks before getting to grips with the random craziness of the lock-up, which produced Bolivia’s finest powder, has its own property ladder and where passing backpackers can come to visit as tourists.

Nyongy’o is taking on an even more extraordinary film as her next role has been confirmed to be in the first of Disney’s $4.06 billion takeover of LucasFilm for Star Wars Episodes 7, 8 and 9. With a release date of the 18th December 2015 already confirmed for Star Wars Episode VII, we’ve still got a fair old wait until we get to see the full movie, but it probably won’t be too long before even more details about the film are announced.

While we don’t know as of yet what character she will be playing, and how integral she’ll be to the storyline, but we do know that she’ll be starring alongside some pretty impressive actors that have also been cast in the movie. This includes the other recent announcement, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), along with John Boyega (Attack The Block), Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (Dredd), and Max von Sydow.

They will all join a lot of the main stars of the original movies, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, with filming already rolling as of last month. Fans will also be please to hear that Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker – C3-PO, Chewie and R2-D2 from the original – will also be returning to their roles for the 7th installment.
