Xbox 360 Kinect

Welcome to the future. I know I harp on a lot about Back to the Future 2, but all the signs seem to point in the direction of hover boards being invented one day (hopefully in my lifetime) and the development of the Xbox 360 Kinect is yet another sign that it’s on its way. If you don’t know what it is yet, check out the video below and come back when you’ve picked your jaw up.

Yep, maybe the next time you play a game like Street Fighter 4 you won’t need any controllers at all; you’ll just stand… and fight. It’s normally Nintendo that surprise the world with its unique control developments; I looked at pictures of the N64 controller for months before it was released and when I played Mario 64 for the first time it was like the world suddenly made sense. Then there was the Wii controller, which pioneered a viable motion sensing controller, but of course that came with having something to hold, but now it looks like it’s going to be just you versus your console.

With Sony working on their Move alternative, it’ll be interesting to see which device behaves the best. The Kinect will be coming out on the 10th November, while Sony’s Move will hit the shelves on the 15th September, so it’ll have the jump on the Kinect by nearly a month.

The Xbox 360 Kinect uses video and depth perception sensors to fully map the movement of your body and relay it to action on the screen. It’s voice recognition is tres Star Trek and the game options are massive. While the Sony is controller based, the Kinect is just you and you alone, so while there is obvious limitations in that, it will definitely be a groundbreaking experience.
