Club to Catwalk: London Fashion exhibition, V&A Museum

Club to Catwalk: London Fashion exhibition Victoria and Albert MuseumWith the success of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s David Bowie Exhibition, the combination of music and fashion in their upcoming Club to Catwalk: London Fashion Exhibition seems like a good continuation on the theme. Focusing on the fashion that span out of the 1980s London club scene to take over the world’s catwalk shows.

The exhibition opened on the 10th July and will be running through until the 16th February 2013. Timed tickets are on sale now with prices of £5.00 (+£0.70 booking fee per ticket) for a standard ticket, £6.00 with a donation to the museum (+£1.00 booking fee per ticket), £10.00 for a family with 1 adult and 2 12–17 year olds (+£2.05 booking fee per family ticket) and £15.00 for a family with 2 adults and 2 12–17 year olds (+£2.30 booking fee per family ticket). Tickets are free for under twelves.

More than 85 outfits are on display for the exhibition featuring some of the fashion design innovators of the era, including Betty Jackson, Katharine Hamnett and Wendy Dagworthy. It showcases the influence of London’s colourful club scene on the designers lighting up the runways during the eighties with their increasingly dramatic creations.

The New Romantic and High Camp styles are featured in detail showing the distinct trends and their lasting influence on the fashion world. The creative passion that fuelled the transformation of both the London club scene and British fashion in the 80’s were intertwined as one followed the other with young designers working on what they’d be wearing on the weekend as much as what they’d be creating for their catwalk shows.

As well as the main exhibition, their will be a series of events throughout the run of Club to Catwalk: London Fashion at the V&A. Ranging from fashion illustration workshops to evening talks, the events give you a chance to get even closer to the inspiration behind the creative developments of the 80s thanks to London club nights and trend setting designers.
