Daredevil Season 2 release date and cast details

Daredevil Season 2For any Netflix addicts who loved the debut series of the Marvel crime fighter’s battle with the underworld of New York City, the good news is that Dardevil Season 2 isn’t a million miles away now. Netflix have always been fairly clear that it was destined to be an ongoing series, and the end of Season 1 left us with no doubt that there was inevitably going to be much more to the story, but with just a couple of months to go until the flood gates to Hell’s Kitchen open once more it’s time to get excited about one of the biggest releases for the web channel.

With the success of the first season, both in terms of viewership and its ability to nudge more people onto Netflix, combined with the critical acclaim it received should contribute to Season 2‘s potential success. The addition of both The Punisher and Elektra (pictured above) into the equation will be a firm Marvel fan crowd-pleaser, helping to put the woeful Daredevil film well and truly behind the comic book giant.

Release date

The double D size outing has been confirmed for a release date, exclusively on Netflix, on the 18th March 2016, both in the UK and the US. As with the first series, all of the thirteen hour-long episodes will be made available on the same day, so you don’t need to worry about scheduling in the individual air date for all of the episodes in the series. You can just flick on and watch as much as you want, whenever you want.

Story

While the official plot arc for Season 2 hasn’t been announced as of yet, we do know that it will see a return for Matt Mudoch and his superhero alter ego, Daredevil, as he continues to fight for justice in the Big Apple’s inner city neighbourhoods. He’ll also have his best buddy and legal partner Franklin “Foggy” Nelson at his side, despite their difficult relationship in Season 1, as well as their secretary and general crime-fighting assistant, Karen Page.

The other big developments we also know about is the addition of both Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, and Murdoch’s ex-girlfriend, Elektra Natchios. In the comic books, the former is a vigilante with similarities to Daredevil, but without all that much in the way of moral high ground, and the latter is highly trained assassin, so there’s clearly going to be more scope for the kind of serious we’ve seen in Season 1.

Cast

The core trio of Charlie Cox (The Theory Of Everything) as Matt Murdoch, Elden Henson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2) as Foggy and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen will be back again in Daredevil Season 2, along with Rosario Dawson (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) as Claire Temple, another of Matt’s complicated love interests and long-term cuts and scrapes fixer upper. There also the new recruits to the cast list with Élodie Yung (Gods Of Egypt) to star as Elektra and Jon Bernthal (Fury) as Punisher.

First impressions

With such a strong opening season, good cast and the new additions to the series we’re expecting Season 2 to be another big hit for Netflix and Marvel. With somewhere in the region of thirty hours of unfettered action to look forward to and more clever character development, flashbacks and guest appearances in the wings it should be high up on the radar for 2016.
