Rob Brydon gets his own BBC 2 chat show

Having carried Gavin, Stacey and Smithy in terms of comedy genius for the last couple of series, Rob Brydon is finally getting his own TV chat show. Having already brought us the world of Marion and Geoff, his first starring television show that came to BBC 2 back in 2000 and 2003, the Welshman is now gracing us with a chat show for BBC 2 later this year.

The format will be a mix of stand up comedy and guest star interviews. With Friday Night with Jonathan Ross set to come to an end on the BBC in July 2010, Brydon’s my tip for shoe filling material.

There are rumours that the show will end in the same way that Friday Night does with a guest band. However, Rob Brydon’s show will give this a twist by having him perform with the band to sign off the show. I’m hoping that the bands will be random like Crystal Castles, Them Crooked Vultures or Cate Le Bon, but I doubt it. I guess I’d settle for seeing Brydon singing along to Vampire Weekend’s Cousins.

Hopefully, it won’t decend into a copy of American style chat shows like Jay Leno’s. If it can hold on to some of the subtle class of Marion and Geoff then it should be pretty decent. The day it gets Jordan on as a guest, however, would be the end of its possibility in my eyes.
