The Dandy exhibition at The Cartoon Museum

The Dandy exhibition at The Cartoon MuseumToday (24th October 2012) sees the opening of the latest exhibition at The Cartoon Museum, The Dandy – 75 Years of a Brilliant British Comic. With the news that The Dandy will be issuing its final printed edition on the 4th December 2012, the exhibition marks a significant moment in British comic book history, celebrating their long run in print.

The upside is that The Dandy will still be available online at https://www.dandy.com/, so there’ll still be more Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat and the legendary Bananaman still to come, but the exhibition provides a chance to look back on a comic that once averaged 2 million sales a week back in the 50s.

The Dandy is Britain’s longest running comic with nearly 75 years under its belt. The exhibition itself will coincide with the 75th anniversary of the comic, which was first published on the 4th December 1937

The Dandy exhibition is set to be on display at The Cartoon Museum in Holborn, London, until the 24th December 2012, making it a great distraction from Christmas shopping. Admission to the museum is £5.50 for adults, £4 concessions and £3 for students. For under-18s, Art Fund Members and Friends of the Cartoon Museum admission is free.

Hopefully the exhibition will remind people about what made the classic Dandy cartoon strips so captivating. I reckon it’s got to be the spark for a Banaman Movie. Tell me you wouldn’t want to see it? Tom Hardy as Banaman, the kid from Outnumbered as Eric and Jimmy Carr as the crow. It would be amazing!
