The Help is set in Jackson Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement as Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns home after finishing college with the dream of becoming a writer. However, when she starts to see how bad the levels of racism are within her community and even her family she is inspired to write about the life of maids in Jackson Mississippi for Harper Row. With the help of Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) and Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer), who work for Skeeter’s childhood friends, they to tell her their stories, and the plan starts to take shape, going on to shake the foundations of her friends and family as the Civil Rights movement shakes the entire country.
The Help DVD promises to include a whole host of additional bonus material, reiterating the film’s homage to the stories behind the lives of everyday people of all races that lived through, fought for and eventually won the battle to outlaw racial discrimination against African Americans and reclaim their rights to vote.
The film is as poignant as it is funny, inspirational and brilliantly produced. Performances are flawless and the great story, script and uplifting feel will make The Help a long time DVD shelf winner. The Help DVD is scheduled for release on the 12th March 2012.
