Xbox 720

Xbox 720It’s been nearly 10 years since Microsoft threw its hat in the ring with the Xbox in 2001. The Xbox 360 came along to push the gaming experience even further in 2005, but it’s now time to put all of that behind you and start to look at the future of gaming with the (potentially distant) upcoming release of the Xbox 720.

Nintendo have already come out bold with their 8th generation console, the Nintendo Wii U, which has upped the hype for the next generation games consoles, pushing Microsoft and Sony to release a little about their own offering.

While information about the Sony Playstation 4 is a little light, the news has started to trickle in on the Xbox 720. Microsoft employees are talking about working on the project on their personal profiles and games houses are starting to get ready for the full specs for the console to start the ball rolling on game production.

There isn’t any confirmation about the date of the launch, although 2013 is the most likely contender, but one thing is for sure, Microsoft won’t be going backwards with the Xbox 720. With that in mind, it’s probably safe to assume that there will be a significant increase in performance power with the 720.

The 360’s CPU has a 3.2 Ghz output sitting alongside a 500Mhz graphics chipset, but with modern gaming PCs clocking in with similar CPU speeds but with significantly higher core clock speeds and video memory it’s safe to say that the Xbox 720 will feature a much improved graphics card. It’ll be a surprise if core clock speeds aren’t in the region of 1,500-2,000Mhz.

The closing years of the 360 have also seen the development of dead on balls accurate whole body controller games with the introduction of the Kinect. Surely this can only mean that the Xbox 720 will come with this technology built in alongside a conventional games controller to pit Microsoft more firmly against the potential power of the Nintendo Wii U.

Either way you looks at it though, the Xbox 720 has got entertainment excitement written all over it. Hopefully, the Microsoft announcements we have all been eagerly waiting for will be coming along shortly to fill in the gaps.
