Though stereoscopic 3D gaming originated with the release of the vision bending might of the Nintendo 3DS it has finally fallen into the hands of the guys at Sony Playstation with the UK release of the 3D display monitor and 3D glasses.
It’s not necessarily the cheapest bit of 3D kit on the market right now, with a retail price around the £410 mark, but it does turn your PS3 into a true 3D games console. It currently comes bundled with the 3D display monitor featuring active shutter 3D display technology and two pairs of futuristic looking 3D glasses.
There are around 30 games that are compatible with the 3D monitor at the moment, but more will be released over the coming months. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is the latest in the new Playstation 3 3D range, but with both Gran Turismo 5 Platinum and Killzone 3 Platinum bundled in the pack there’s plenty of 3D action to crack into straight off the blocks.
The screen size on the Sony Playstation 3D display monitor is 24″ and 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080). It can also be connected through one of two HDMI ports to compatible devices including your PC or Sky TV.
The 3D glasses that come with the monitor are rechargeable using a USB connection, although they’re 45g, so a bit heavier than your average cinema specs.
The Sony Playstation 3 3D display monitor is a pretty pricey piece of kit, but if you’ve got you’re heart set on a full 3D gaming experience it’s probably as good as it gets right now.
