What will be the next Star Wars game after Star Wars Jedi Survivor

What will be the next Star Wars game

If you’ve just finished playing Jedi Survivor and you’re wondering what will be the next Star Wars game, here’s everything we know about the future for the franchise in the world of gaming. We normally get at least one new game each year and with Survivor being the big one in 2023, the next epic should be next year.

However, there’s a little more still planned for 2023, so we’ll start by taking you through the details for that. But we won’t be stopping there, because the really cool stuff will be a bit further down the line, so we’ll discuss the full slate to give you a look ahead at the next few years for Star Wars games.

Finally, we’ll round things off with our wish list for the future. Having played a lot of the previous titles going all the way back to the arcades of the 1980s, we’ve got a good view of what worked well, so hopefully someone at Lucasfilm Games will be paying attention.

What will be the very next Star Wars game?

The very next Star Wars title is planned for release in 2023 and it’s a squad arena game called Star Wars Hunters that will be coming out on iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. There’s no official date as of yet, but the free-to-play game has already been soft launched in South East Asia, so it shouldn’t be too far away now.

You’ll get to play as one of a number of new characters created for the game and you can check out the gameplay trailer below to get more of a feel for how it’s going to run. It’s developed by mobile-focused Zynga Inc. based out of San Mateo California.

They specialise in online play, which should world well for a squad based player-versus-player setup like Star Wars Hunters. It looks like it’s going to be carnage with everything from classic lightsabers and blasters to rail guns and plasma grenades.

The arenas are inspired by various locations from the Star Wars universe, including the Wookie home world of Kashyyyk, Tatooine, the ice planet of Hoth, the forest moon of Endor, and we’re expecting a whole host more when it finally gets it’s full release.

It’s essentially the Star Wars meets Apex Legends and Halo Online. It’s not the first 3rd person online multiplayer from the series and Star Wars Battlefront II is still an option if you want to get into something like it now, but the free-to-play mobile side of things is going to make it a little more interesting.

What’s the next BIG Star Wars game?

We don’t want to take too much away from the prospect of Star Wars Hunters, but it’s probably not the droid you were looking for. However, we’ve got a much longer wait for the next big title in the series with Jedi Survivor out in Spring 2023.

With the June games announcements starting to fly in, we’ve had confirmation that we’ll be getting the Ubisoft Snowdrop Star Wars Project in 2024, making it a strong contender for the next big game. It was initially announced last year, but with few details to go on, but the recent release of the video belo has confirmed that it will be called Star Wars Outlaws.

If you look at the way things have gone with Ubisoft’s Avatar Frontiers of Pandora game, which has been indefinitely significantly, it’s not a guarantee for ’24. The dev house has got a lot on its plate with a series of Assassin’s Creed titles on the way and the huge Avatar game to finesse, so you might be looking at 2025 before its Star Wars title sees the light of day.

Another contender to be the next big game for the franchise is the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake (KOTOR R). This is shaping up to be a pretty chunky full remake of the classic 2003, which originally came out for Xbox and PC.

It was announced a year ago as a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive and you can see the teaser video below. If you didn’t play the original game, it’s set 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, so predates everything we’ve ever seen from Star Wars on the big screen by a long way.

However, with the references to the Old Republic in Star Wars Jedi Survivor, it’s a timeline that’s got a lot of possibilities. It was a big part of the success of the original version of the game and fans are going to be hoping for this to be the next title we get with 2024 looking like a possibility.

The second contender for the next big game is Star Wars Eclipse, which is a brand new story-based action adventure game. It’ll have branching narratives and delves deep into the past of the High Republic, following on from the success of KOTOR.

As with the remake mentioned above, there’s no date as of yet, but 2024 is an outside possibility. We’ve only seen a cinematic reveal trailer, which you can watch below, but as this also came out a year ago it’s definitely in contention to arrive next.

However, creating something entirely from scratch takes more time than a remake, so if we had to call it, we’d say that the Knight so the Old Republic Remake has got more chance of being 2024. That would then leave 2025 free for Star Wars Eclipse to build on the success and hype with more Old Republic lore and adventure.
