Colin Farrell takes the lead role, playing factory worker Doug Quaid. Disappointed with the lot life has dealt him, he visits the memory recalibration facility, Rekall, and all hell breaks loose. There’s bit more to it than that, but we don’t want to give the game away too much. The Total Recall remake looks like it could be the sci-fi movie event of 2012 that Prometheus failed to deliver.
This time around there’s no trip to Mars, but there is a lot of Tron Legacy/Fifth Element futuristic cityscape chases to light up the screen with some of the darkened Shanghai style that made Blade Runner look so stunning and foreboding. There’s also a 1984-esque political backdrop to the storyline of the Total Recall remake with earth of 2084 being the survivor of a devastating war between Euroamerica and New Shanghai.

With more vaguely obscure sci-fi references than a Simon Pegg wet dream (Lori, 2084, New Shanghai), some amazing effects and a proletariat foundation, the Total Recall remake has got the green light to science fiction thumbs up a go go. It’s scheduled for a UK cinema release date of the 24th August 2012.
