Great women’s knitwear for autumn winter 2013

Choosing out the right knitwear in the run up to autumn and winter is a crucial fashion decision that will help to decide whether or not you’re going to be looking bootielicious or not while you try to keep warm. To help to give you a good running start on the seasonal knit hunt, we’ve pulled together a few of the great and good from some of the high street names that have got it right this year. Some of the best knits we’ve been able to find this year come from Zara, Next, H&M, GAP and ASOS.

Zara’s minimalist outlook

Zara has got a massive range of knitwear online this year, so there’s a hell of a lot of choice. In general, they’ve gone for a minimalist style that’s got shades of Jil Sander, especially with the model stance in the shots below. It’s got a cool resignation to the chill of winter, but with little glimmers of fun detail and off-kilter sex appeal. Our picks from their autumn winter collection includes their ribbed boat neck sweater, the black and ecru wide stripe knitted jumper, the see-through grey mesh-like knit and the chunky jacquard sweater below:

Zara boat neck knitted jumper
Ribbed boat neck sweater – £15.99
Zara wide stripe knitwear
Wide stripe sweater – £35.99
Zara extra fine jumper
Extra-fine sweater – £45.99
Zara jacquard knitted winter sweater 2013
Jacquard knitted winter sweater – £45.99

Next gets cool to keep you warm

If you did a straw poll with girls on the street (not that type of girls on the street, we mean ordinary women, shopping in town) we doubt that many would be inclined to consider Next to be all that cool, but with their knits this year, they’ve really excelled themselves. Again there’s a massive range and the prices are even more reasonable than Zara’s. Our favourites include their stitch cardie, scoop pearl sweater, Fairisle pattern scoop jumper and their stitch roll neck sweater.

Next stitch winter cardigan
Stitch cardigan – £35
Next scoop pearp sweater
Scoop pearl sweater – £22
Next fairisle pattern scoop jumper
Fairisle pattern scoop sweater – £18
Next stitch roll neck sweater
Knitted roll-neck sweater – £32

H&M keep things fine

The all encompassing crazy cats at H&M have also got an epic range of knitwear for A/W 13, especially in the fine knit department. Layers can be added in abundance with some of the more sheer texture woolens in their collection and they’ve done an awesome job of combining up their best with a few fashion hints for outfit creation. Our significant number of picks include:

Bookworm chic at GAP

GAP has got a cool off-shoot of bookworm chic about its best knitwear this year. There’s always a pretty big element of the preppy look about the American high streeter, but for the three picks below, they’ve definitely got the balance just right. Our faves include both the grey and navy cable knit pullovers and the tuck stitch jumper.

ASOS goes chunky cute for A/W 13

There’s a frightening number of knits available from ASOS, as ever, but the greatest out of a pretty impressive and sizable bunch are very fluffy, chunky and super cute. As well as a lot of their own brand knitwear, they also stock a fair few choice selections from other brands, including a very Christmassy New Look Intarsia jumper. Our picks are below:

ASOS cowl neck fluffy yarn knitted sweater
