GamesMaster could be on its way back to tea time television

Or at least that’s the word on the interweb computer games street anyway. Patrick Moore’s all powerful big floating head and Dominic Diamond’s manic presenter skills may sadly not be involved, but if it retains the same mad cap spirit of its predecessor it should be class.

The news comes as Future Publishing negotiate a new rights deal with the previous owners of GamesMaster, Double Act Films. Future Publishing had previously only had the go ahead on print media, so they had focused on the GamesMaster computer games magazine. However, the new deal means that they are able to bring back the specter of the genius tea time entertainment slot.

Future Publishing has approached a number of production companies, television channels and TV presenters to get the project under way. That leaves us with a clean slate for Patrick Moore and Dominic Diamond replacements. My choice would be Charlie Brooker (hepped up on high doses of caffeine obviously to give him the level of crazy the show needs) for presenter and Richard Madly as the big floating head (tell me it wouldn’t be funny, monocle and all).

The show will focus on new computer game releases and there are rumours that production quality will be a lot sharper than the original, which I don’t think is a very good plan to be honest. Surely a part of the charm of the original was its mental special effects.

If the rumours are true then we could see GamesMaster in its new incarnation in the not too distant future, more than 14 years on from the end of its first outing in 1998. The long and short of this news is that the coveted GamesMaster Champion title will be back up for grabs for computer game addicts everywhere. Golden joysticks for all!

The sad news is that the rumours of the return of GamesMaster to TV went quiet since their first surfacing in 2010. Hopefully, Future are biding their time and about to release something awesome.
