Lady Deathstrike is the boss fight waiting for you at the Hand’s temple base late on in Marvel’s Wolverine, and if you’re struggling to beat her, our tips should give you a lot more chances of winning the fight. You get to Lady Deathstrike once Wolverine and Jean Grey finally corner the leader of the ninja cult in a bid to track down the Helix Engine. It comes after the Hand abducts Walter and attacks Logan, who they refer to as “Shinigami”.
AdvertisementDeathstrike is fast, she’s got a taste for deep incisions, and she’ll happily use the lava pool in the second half of the arena to end your run early if you’re not paying attention. It’s a tough fight, but it’s built on rhythm rather than raw difficulty spikes, so once you’ve got a feel for her patterns, she goes down and it’s a pretty brutal closing cinematic to look forward to.

Here’s a full breakdown of how to get through both phases of the Deathstrike boss fight, based on our own runs through the encounter.
Phase one: learn the sword and get your parries going

The opening stretch of the fight is really about getting comfortable with Deathstrike’s rhythm before you start pushing damage. Whenever she raises her sword to block, resist the urge to go for a kick, since the window isn’t generous enough to make it worthwhile. A dodge backwards is the safer call here, and it buys you the space to be ready for her next set of combo attacks.
For her side-to-side projectile swipes, dodge left and right to match the direction of the attack, and when she throws out her final strike in the string, a double tap of dodge rolls you clean out of the way. Once you’ve dealt with that sequence, she resets and starts the pattern again, which gives you a repeatable loop to practice against.
This is also the point to start using your Helix Claws when they charge up. With R1, you can fire them off to add in some extra damage, and lining up your specials for when she’s mid-recovery lets you chip away decent chunks of her health bar in one go.
AdvertisementThe real skill you need for this phase, though, is parrying, which is pretty much the case for every boss fight in Marvel’s Wolverine. Lady Deathstrike moves quickly, so you won’t land every one, but even a couple of clean parries in a row will build stagger, cut down the time she spends attacking you, and open up bigger windows for your own combos. String enough of those together and you’ll make solid progress. Keep your Rage in your back pocket too, since it’s there to pull you back into the fight if things go wrong.
One move you can’t parry is her downward overhead strike at the end of an intricate combo, which you can see in the video below, so the moment she leaps into the air, switch your instinct from parry to dodge. It’s worth learning to read that jump specifically, because trying to parry it will just get you hit. Pair that with the power attack counter technique, where a well-timed dodge into one of her strikes rewards you with a heavy counter-hit that builds a big chunk of stagger in one move.
If you find yourself out of rhythm and just eating hits, the knee special attack is your emergency exit. It won’t always come out clean and you might take a bit of damage getting there, but it interrupts almost anything Deathstrike throws at you and buys you the breathing room to reset. It’s worth saving for exactly those moments when nothing else is working. Similarly, if you manage to dodge the final hit in one of her longer combos, you’ll usually find yourself with a bigger opening to get damage in without much risk coming back the other way for a little while.
Get all of that working together and you’ll trigger the cutscene that moves the fight outside, onto a platform built around a pool of lava, for phase two of the Lady Deathstrike boss fight.
Phase two: sharper timing, more space management
Once the fight moves outdoors, the difficulty ramps up in two ways: Deathstrike’s claw swipes become more complex and need much tighter parry timing, and the arena itself becomes a hazard. Start working on your parry reactions again as soon as you’re in, because this section punishes sloppy timing more than phase one did.
AdvertisementWhen you do get an opening, commit to your combos quickly. Deathstrike tends to retreat and then dash back in almost immediately, so you want to make the most of any window before she resets the spacing. This is also where you’ll see more chances to land the power attack counter mentioned earlier for extra stagger, which you can unlock from your techniques upgrade page if you haven’t already.
It’s also where her kick flurry move shows up, which again asks for a string of well-timed parries to get through cleanly. The first kick is normal speed, but the second two move fast, so you’ll need to be even quicker. If you can chain everything together, you can take a serious bite out of her health bar in one exchange, especially with your specials ready to fire off right after your combo finisher, so use your abilities wisely and be ready to fall back once you’ve unloaded. If you want to see this in action, check out the guide video above.
Watch for the move where she drops mines at your feet. Back off when you see it starting, and focus on parrying the final hit in the sequence, which knocks Deathstrike back and lands a decent amount of damage. The Helix Claws are also handy here as an interrupt if you just need to force some distance and reset the pace of the fight.
The single biggest thing to manage in this phase is positioning. The rocky island isn’t that big, and Deathstrike’s attacks can push you back toward the lava at the edges. If you get caught out there, you risk being knocked straight into it, which ends the fight instantly and sends you back to your last checkpoint. Make a habit of moving back toward the center of the island whenever you notice yourself getting close to the edge, rather than waiting until you’re already in trouble.

Putting it together

You won’t land every parry, and you don’t need to. The goal is volume: get as many in as you reasonably can, keep building stagger, and that will also help you to manage damage reduction along the way. Stack enough of those exchanges together across both phases, keep your distance from the lava, and use the knee attack and Helix Claws whenever you need to buy a second to reset, and Deathstrike’s health bar will eventually hit zero.
