Jimmy Choo half a billion pounds sale, 2011

Jimmy ChooThat’s not too shabby a figure for shoes. The company that still bears the name of it’s original creative designer, Jimmy Choo, has been sold to luxury German company Labelux. However, as Choo sold his stake back in 2001 for £10 million, when Jimmy Choo Ltd was sold to he doesn’t benefit from the whopping payout.

Co-founder and former editor of Vogue Accessories, Tamara Mellon, however, has retained her stake in the company throughout the many sales of the brand. As such she will be doing pretty nicely out of the deal.

With shoes as pricey as £1,000, an adoring fashionista and red carpet following, massive media awareness (especially thanks to numerous Sex in the City mentions) and a growing international brand name, Jimmy Choo has been getting bigger and bigger by the year.

On sale at Net A Porter, Cloggs and the Jimmy Choo store, the luxury fashion brand is pretty well covered online. However, with Jimmy Choo now going beyond just shoes and branching out into handbags, jewellery and perfume, Labelux could now build the Jimmy Choo brand up to even higher heights.
