Pikmin 4 bosses

Pikmin 4 bosses

Some of best battles in gaming history have come from the action puzzler, which is why we’re looking forward to taking on the Pikmin 4 bosses when the game lands in July. We’ve been treated to the Nintendo Direct presentation, which showcased a good chunk of the gameplay, so we’ve got plenty of details to add to our look ahead at the game.

This includes a couple of potential bosses, so we’ll talk you through the big beasts and what they mean for the rest of the Pikmin munching monsters in the 4th entry in the series. We’ve already seen multiple Nintendo Directs in the build up to the release of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, so we’re expecting more here too.

This should give us a few more bosses to add to our list for Pikmin 4 before the game comes out. The last game had some large scale tussles and it looks like that might be the case again here, but the challenge is going to be in bringing a lot of new attacks and creatures to the table.

The biggest criticism for Pikmin 3 was that it was a bit on the short side, so hopefully Nintendo has addressed this for the sequel. There were a total of 6 main bosses last time around with another 4 mini-bosses, so if Nintendo does go bigger these are the numbers to beat.

We’ll know more with the next Pikmin 4 Nintendo Direct, so we’ll update things here then. We’ll also add in a strategy guide for each of the bosses once the release date rolls around to give you some tips on how to beat each of them.

Featured bosses and mini-boss fights

As things stand, we’ve only seen two contenders for the 4th game in the series and you can find out a little more about each of them below. It’s possible that they might just be mini-bosses, and one could be a larger enemy type, but it’s what we have to go on at the moment.

Disco ball daddy long-legs

Of the two bosses featured in the Pikmin 4 Nintendo Direct, this is the one that is most likely to be a main contender. It looks a little like the Shaggy Long Legs mini boss from 3, but it’s in a dark cave similar to the Vehemoth Phosbat, a main boss also from the last game, so it could go either way.

You can see it in the presentation at 3:07 with it’s large disco ball abdomen, and a lot of Yellow Pikmin being hurled at it directly to do some damage. It then does a bounce down attack, but it seem this is more about shaking you off than inflicting losses, so leave them on as long as possible and get them back as quick as you can.

You can then see it stomping around with its long legs, so you’ll need to coral your Pikmin to avoid getting flattened by them. It looks like they can attack the legs, so this and the disco ball will be your main options to deliver enough damage to defeat it.

However, there’s a weird move it appears to do at 2:18 that appears to be killing Pikmin, so this will be one to look out for. When it’s stomping around and bouncing the disco ball up and down get your Pikmin to safety and try to avoid the legs.

Queen Bulborb

Straight after we see the disco ball boss in the Pikmin 4 Nintendo Direct, we get to see the second contender for the next entry with what looks like a Queen Bulborb. It’s got holes all over its body that spew out slithering Dwarf Bulborb as its army to attack you.

It’s big attack appears to be its roll move, which will flatten any Pikmin that you leave in the way. It looks like the quicker you finish off the Queen Bulborb, the better, because it’s going to get pretty crowded and difficult to get to it the longer the boss fight goes on.

Hitting it with your toughest Pikmin as soon as possible is one approach. Hit and run repeat could help with this. Alternatively, you could see if you can take out the slug Dwarf Bulborbs to clear the decks a little before taking aim at the Queen.

What this all means for the rest of the bosses?

If these are indeed full bosses in Pikmin 4 then we’re hoping for a whole lot more from the next presentation. They’re very similar to previous monsters, so don’t look that exciting for seasoned Pikmin players.

However, it’s distinctly possible that the disco ball daddy long legs is a mini-boss and the Queen Bulborb is just a large enemy type, which actually means we’ve still got all of the exciting announcements still to come. The previous games have seen some epic fights and there’s no reason that won’t be the case again in the 4th entry in the series.

The best bosses have required as lot of tactical activity and setup to beat with the likes of the Phosbat, Sandbelching Meerslug, Quaggled Mireclops and Plasm Wraith being standout from the last game. If you’re new to the Pikmin series and you want to see these in action you can check out the Pikmin 3 Deluxe guide to see all of the boss fight for yourself.

The 4th entry will be a full build for the Nintendo Switch with a chance it might get ported to the next console too, so we’ve built up our expectations pretty highly. If you look at what Nintendo has done with The Legend of the Zelda Breath of the Wild, it looks like they’re turning things up for something big and Pikmin 4 could be a part of this.

It’s also out around the same time are Hogwarts Legacy comes out on the Nintendo Switch, so there’s a healthy amount of competition for it around the launch. As a result, it will have to go big on the next presentation or trailer to build up the hype.

We’re expecting this to go big after the release of Tears of the Kingdom, so late-May and June should see Pikmin 4 getting a lot of the limelight. Although, we should also get the announcement for the rest of the year for the Nintendo Switch – and maybe even the fabled Super Switch next console – so the pressure is still on to deliver some epic bosses.

We’ll update you with more details on Pikmin 4 as they’re confirmed. You can also check out our computer games section to keep tabs on other releases. Visit the Nintendo website at www.nintendo.com/ for more details.
