Splatoon 3 bosses

Nintendo has been fairly tight-lipped about the Splatoon 3 bosses, but now that the game is out we know that all of the leaks about story mode campaign in the week ahead of the release are true. It’s impossible to write about this without including spoilers, so we’ve waited until the launch day to cover the details.

As in previous single-player sections of the games, you’ll be facing off against the Octarians, who keep making off with the Great Zapfish. However, things are a little different in Splatoon 3, with the tentacled race having sprouted hair.

If that’s not enough, the story mode is also called “The Return of the Mammalians”, so clearly we’re in for some new bosses. You can find out more about them in the details below and as soon as we get into the midst of the campaign we’ll add in guide notes on them all and how to beat them.

Leaked bosses become confirmed bosses

Despite the fact that there have been so many leaks a week before the release of Splatoon 3 we only knew a few details about the bosses that will feature in the story mode. In all fairness, most of them are sort of guessable for long-term fans of the franchise.

Just looking at the title for the story mode and some of the footage Nintendo has put out for the game will point Splatoon veterans in the right direction. For a start there has only ever been one mammal in the series and while we’ve never seen him in person we all know what to expect.

He’s Mr. Grizz, the boss of Grizz Co., who talked to players through a statue of a bear with a salmon in his mouth for Salmon Run games in Splatoon 2. If that isn’t enough to point to the prospect of a large bear boss fight then we don’t know what is. You can check out the final boss fight in the video below to get some tips on how to beat Mr. Grizz.

You can also find out more about the Splatoon 3 final boss with our dedicated feature on it, but the general point is that Mr. Grizz is the main villain. We’ve already had two battles with the leader of the Octarians, DJ Octavio, so a third would have been overkill.

In terms of other bosses, you might want to pay attention to the slightly arch look of the Idols this time around. There’s definitely a more sinister appearance to Deep Cut’s Shiver Frye and Big Man.

We’ve also seen comments on the Super Mario Sunshine Manta boss fight that indicates that Big Man is going to be one of the bosses that you’ll have to take on. The setup pays homage to the classic paint clean up job that Mario had to do at Sirena Beach.

We’re expecting Big Man to take the plunge under his own ink and trying to attack you from below, so you’ll have to hit back with your own colour to reduce his movement and get in your damage. He might also be able to blend in and surprise you like you can in the rest of the game, so it could be a tough one to beat.

In the last game, there were also a few bosses that were based around household things like the the toaster oven and the shower. That could well be the case again in Splatoon 3, because they worked so well the last time around.

With the release time fast approaching there isn’t long to wait to find out, so check out our computer games section to keep tabs on the latest for the game.
