Emma Stone (The Help) stars as Eeps, the eldest sister in the cave dwelling Croods family. When she rebels against her father Grug’s (played by Nicolas Cage) rules about leaving the safety of their rocky dwelling she sets off a chain of events that sees the whole family taking on a new adventure.
Ryan Reynolds (Adventureland) plays Guy, Eeps’ forward thinking love interest who they meet on the way and Clark Duke (Kick Ass) plays Grug’s younger brother Thunk. There’s also Catherine Keener as Ugga, Grug’s wife, and Cloris Leachman (ace name) as their good old nan.
Grug’s old ways come up against Eeps’ sense of adventure and Guy’s new ideas as the insular family start to look beyond the confines of their own borders to try a few things different.
The distinct similarities with Brave aside, The Croods looks like it’ll be a good a fun family film, perhaps with a little more high adventure than the Pixar equivalent turned out to have. With a release date that’s primed for the Easter break, a strong cast and vibrant animation, The Croods should be set to have a pretty big box office turn out next spring.
