The Secret Christmas Market, Shoreditch

Secret Emporium Secret Christmas Market, ShoreditchThe creators of the Secret Garden Party and Wilderness Festival are back with a wintery twist this Christmas with their Christmas Market, Secret Emporium. The aim of the market is to showcase some of Britain’s best independent designers, so expect to see some amazing fashion on show and available for a well timed Christmas shop.

The two-day market is free admission and will be taking place in Factory 7, Hearn Street, Shoreditch (EC2A 3LS if you want to find it on your GPS, but there’s a location map below too), bringing 44 British independent designers to the fashion flared streets of East London. Set for Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th December 2012, and running from 10:30am to 8pm, the Secret Christmas Market is bound to be a lot of fun in the run up to Christmas.

Transforming  Factory 7 into a winter wonderland of style, the market will feature the work of Secret Emporium scholarship winners Isobel Webster and Lauren Baker (see image of Lauren’s one-off mosaic skull). Isobel will be launching her first ready-to-wear collection of catsuits and leggings, as well as hurtling out her unique pieces on the backs of crazed street performers to flit and stride through the stalls.

There will be plenty of other designers on show, including Lilah, Rose Willis, Wolf & Moon, Jobee Jo, Beara Beara, Merrimaking, House of Ismay, Feathered Fantasy, Boutique Alter Ego, Chido Bueno, Spanglebooth, Bottletop, Bon Bon, Circus Kinetica, Eleanor Bolton, Thor & Wistle, Workhouse, Eddy & Grice, Inyour Dreams, Lucy Peacock and Wild Things (amongst many more).

There is a Dr. Zhivago meets David Bowie theme to the day, so it should be one of the most vibrant, colourful and warmly dressed fashion events of the winter. With hot mulled cider, roasted chestnuts, mentally impressive old school Christmas decorations, singalong Christmas carols around the piano and an impressive range of tasty goodies from the Exmouth Moro Market Restaurant it’s about as festive as it gets.

If all of that wasn’t enough, Secret Emporium has also pulled together a music line-up selected by the Secret Garden Garden Party’s Woodburner Stage organisers. Bands that have been confirmed include Ewan Bleach & the Snakewalkers, Harky, The Turbans, Whiskey Moon Face, The John Langan Band, Hicks & Higgins, Jessica Burn and Ben DeVere.

The last cool star on top is that each of the 44 designers have contributed a specially designed bauble to go into the Secret Christmas Market’s Grand Christmas Tree raffle. The winner will take home the most uniquely designed Christmas tree this side of the North Pole and to mark the St Nick spirit of giving, all of the proceeds will go to the housing and homeless charity, Shelter.
