The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Switch how to move rocks and pots

The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening Switch how to move rocks

With the recent arrival of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake for the Nintendo Switch it’s time to start looking at how to make it through the game and one of your first big obstacles will be how to move rocks. The good news is that you get the ability to move rocks and heavy pots fairly early on in the game, and with the abundance of these barriers throughout Koholint Island you’ll definitely want to be able to move them.

Rocks and pots are essentially used to block routes to some of the coolest treasures in The Legend of Zelda: Link’ s Awakening and with the impressive graphics for the Nintendo Switch remake it’s a lot of fun shifting them out of the way to progress in the game. There are also some cool side routes that will become available when you can move rocks, which will give you some nice loot for your efforts, so you definitely want to use this ability sooner rather than later.

The game may not have the same level of sprawling locations to explore as the glorious The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but with the upgraded graphics it’s easy to find yourself just exploring the Island. While this is definitely something you’re going to want to do to find all of the secrets tucked away in Link’s Awakening, its best to save this until you’ve got all of the abilities to get around the island unimpeded, especially moving rocks.

How to move rocks and pots?

Knowing how to move rocks in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is all well and good, but it doesn’t necessarily tell you everything you need to do to be able to get the ability, so we’ll start with the how and then follow it up in the section below with how you get to the point in the game where you find what you need. Essentially what you’re looking for is the Power Bracelet, which you’ll find in Bottle Grotto, the second dungeon in the game. Once you have the power bracelet in hand you’ll then be able to equip it from the menu screen, walk up to a rock and press A to move it, which will essentially be you picking it up and throwing it somewhere.

For anyone looking to move rocks as quickly as possible, you need to focus on getting through the 1st two dungeons as a priority to get the power bracelet that you need. Just keep following all of the prompts from the Owl and you’ll be able to crank through this fairly easily, however, the section below will give you some pointers to help you along the way.

A big part of the process will be finding Rok’s Feather, which you get in the first dungeon. This will let you jump over gaps, getting through to the sections needed to make it to Bottle Grotto (see below for pointers). You’ll fine the ability item in dungeon one, Tail Cave, which is about as easy as dungeons get in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The owl will guide you to the cave in the early sequences of the game, but in all fairness by the time you find out that you need to move rocks you should already have completed this dungeon and have Rok’s Feather in your kitbag.

How to get to Bottle Grotto?

You might have already found the entrance to Bottle Grotto blocked after you follow the owl’s advice to head north to Goponga Swamp after completing Tail Cave. You’ll be able to journey northwards thanks for the jump ability Rok’s Feather gives you. This will lead you to a mission to rescue the dog-napped PowWow, which has been taken by a gang of Moblins.

You’ll track it down by going through the Mysterious Forest and using Rok’s Feather to jump over the gaps to get through to the Moblin’s hideout cave. Make it through the cave and defeats its leader and you’ll be free to rescue BowWow by walking up to it.

With the chain chomp lookalike in toe you can head on to Goponga Swamp, which is where you’ll find Bottle Grotto. BowWow will eat the flowers to clear the path to the Dungeon in the top right of the swamp and then you just need to make it through the Grotto to pick up the Power Bracelet to be able to move rocks.

Where to find the Power Bracelet in Bottle Grotto?

There’s a lot of moving parts to complete to make it through the lion’s share of Bottle Grotto to where the Power Bracelet is. We don’t want to spoil the fun of cracking this dungeon too much, but here are a few general hints to get you through.

  1. You can light lanterns using a little magic powder
  2. You need to knock the beetle down the gap to get rid of it
  3. You can trigger crystal switches while on top of the platforms to get you through
  4. Use a charged spinning sword attack on the mimic enemies when you get close to them
  5. Shield deflect the spiked beetles before attacking them

You find the Power Bracelet after you beat the dungeon mini-boss, Hinox, which looks very cool in the Nintendo Switch remake. Once you take it out you’ll move on and get the map in a treasure chest close to the vacuum enemy. In the room above that is where the Bracelet is. Light the torches to get rid of the ghosts and a treasure chest will appear containing it. With that you’ll be able to move rocks and pots, which you’ll need to finish off the dungeon.
