The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening Switch how to get bananas

Unless you played the original The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, you might not have expected to need to work out how to get bananas in the Nintendo Switch remake. However, this is a crucial part of the progression in the game and you’ll need them to be able to make it through into Kanalet Castle, which will be closed shut when you first arrive as you search for Dungeon 3.

Obviously, you’ll need to find an alternative route in and it really doesn’t take too long to get to one, but you’ll find this is blocked too and the only way past is with a nice bunch of bananas. The reason for this is that Kiki the monkey is standing in your way with her band of chimpanzees blocking the route North, which would secure your entrance to the Castle.

It’s unlikely that you’ve taken much time to do some serious trading back in Mabe Village, so you probably haven’t even gotten close to getting bananas to give to Kiki. However, you can follow the step-by-step guide for this in the section below, which will show you exactly what you need to do and where you need to go to get those elusive yellow treats to clear the monkeys out of your way.

How to get bananas

Essentially, you’ll get bananas in The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening by following a trading sequence that kicks off in Mabe Village, which you will have undoubtedly started, but maybe not quite completed early on in the Switch game. The reason for this is that the final piece is not actually in the village, so it’s easy to have thought that you’ve done everything without actually doing everything. If you’re up near Kanalet Castle when you realise that you need to get bananas then you’ll need to retrace your route back towards Mabe Village to follow the steps below:

1. The first place that you are looking for is the Trendy Game shop in the far South East corner of the village. You just need to win Yoshi using the grabber, which is easy enough even with the worst luck. You might need to have more than one go to usher Yoshi closer as a prize, but if you keep trying you’ll get there in the end.

2. Next, you want to take the plush Yoshi to the biggest house in the village (it’s North North Wast of the Trendy Game location and inside you’ll find a mother who wants to take the Yoshi toy from you to give to her baby. Hand it over and you’ll get a ribbon in exchange, which doesn’t sound fair to begin with, but it’ll all balance up when you get the bananas at the end of the sequence.

3. Next head South South West to get to the house with the chain chomp outside. There are two doors on the house and you want to head into the one on the right-hand-side. You’ll find another chomp to chat with and she’ll give you some dog food in exchange for the ribbon to wear on her head. She’s still a chain chomp after the exchange, but she’s a prettier chain chomp for her efforts.

4. Finally, head back down to the sandy shore that you first woke up on at the beginning of The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Try not to get too distracted by the lush graphics but on the Nintendo Switch remake and instead head on across to the right until you come to a house. Inside you’ll find a very hungry crocodile who will be more than happy to take the dog food off your hands. In exchange you’ll get the bunch of bananas that you need for Kiki and his band of simian brethren.

Take the bananas back up to them and you’ll be able to get past them and gain entrance to Kanalet Castle. So that’s it; that’s how to get bananas.
