The Mandalorian Season 3 Jedi

The Mandalorian Season 3 who are the Jedi

The Mandalorian Season 3 has got a lot of reveals, so here’s what you need to know about who are the Jedi are. We saw the first of these in the trailer for the show before it arrived on Disney+ and in Episode 4 we got the flashback that fills in some of the gaps.

You can’t see them in much detail in the trailer, because they’ve got their backs to the camera, but the lightsabers are a clear indication of what they are. They appear to be protecting Grogu from something on the other side of the door readying themselves for the breach.

As a result, we definitely know that they’re Jedi Knights, but with Season 3 taking place not too long after the events of Star Wars The Return of the Jedi there aren’t that many options. For anyone that doesn’t remember, Luke was the only one left in the mix with the exception of Princess Leia, who goes on to train at least a little after the end of the Galactic Republic.

With such a small pool of Jedi left, the scene was one of the biggest mysteries waiting to be revealed during the third season of The Mandalorian. We’ve already seen Luke feature in both the first and second season, so it’s possible that he’ll show up again, but none of these look like him.

If that isn’t enough, Episode 4 featured a Jedi Master that manages to whisk Grogu to safety in the end. It takes place towards the end of the flashback, so we’ll also take you through the details for the character and actor involved.

The solution to the Jedi in The Mandalorian Season 3

What we can see in the scene in the trailer is that there are five Jedi Knights approaching a door with their Lightsaber’s out. One of them has long hair, but you really can’t see enough detail to make much else out about them other than they appear to be young.

We know that Luke Skywalker started to rebuild the Jedi order after taking out the Emperor, so one possible solution to who they are is either his Padawans or young knight recruits. In The Mandalorian Season 2 we saw Luke training Grogu, so it was possible that he had a larger school in operation before this.

We now know that this is not the case, but it’s also worth bearing in mind the fact that there were some surviving Jedi Padawan and Younglings from the dreaded Order 66. This is why we have Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Reva Sevander in the Obi Wan Kenobi TV series.

If you add all of this up, the group of Jedi we see in The Mandalorian Season 3 trailer could have been a collection of newly trained and discovered Jedi. Luke could well have searched the Galaxy for Force sensitive recruits and Jedi in hiding to build out his first school.

We saw in Star Wars Episodes VI-IX that Luke trained Jedi for more than a decade after defeating the Emperor. How many of these successfully completed their training we don’t know, but it was possible that these could have been the first graduates or Padawans in training.

However, as it turns out there is another way of looking at the scene in the trailer and Episode 4 of Season 3 confirmed that the scene in question takes place a long time ago. When you look at it like this it’s Grogu remembering in a flashback his training at the Jedi Temple and the ill-fated night that Anakin turned to the dark side.

If you look at the door in the trailer it appears as though another force is trying to get in, and we now know that it was Troopers about to blast the Jedi for all they’re worth. They were essentially protecting Youngling Grogu against his onslaught and this leads to his eventual escape.

The Mandalorian Season 3 begin on the 1st March 2023, and now they’ve appeared in the Disney+ series, so we know that the Jedi in the trailer were probably Padawans doing what they could in a bleak situation. They eventually get Grogu away in an elevator, but they all get shot down in the fight.

At the top of the elevator, he’s protected by Jedi Master, Kelleren Beq, who gets them away on a speeder. They eventually make it to safety, but it seems clear that there will be more flashbacks to fill in the gaps in the latter half of The Mandalorian’s third season. Previous theories for the Jedi in the trailer

Another answer was that they’re a separate group of Jedi that have been in hiding. They look like they’re too young to date all the way back to the younglings that escaped from the temple when Anakin attacked, and while we know it’s not the case anymore, it was impossible when we just had the trailer to go on.

Another possibility was that they’ve been found and trained by another Jedi in hiding like Ashoka or Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi Survivor. These have been working in the shadows against the Empire for years in a bid to protect those closest to them, so there could have been a link somehow in Season 3.

At the end of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Cal finds a codec containing the details of Force sensitive kids throughout the Galaxy. He goes on to destroy it when he realizes that they’re at threat, but with the sequel out in April (just a few weeks after The Mandalorian finishes on Disney+), a link between the stories would have made a lot of sense.

The Mandalorian Season 3 trailer:

You can see the group of Jedi in the trailer above a little after the half way point. It’s a very short scene, so you really don’t see very much. The time stamp is 01:09 if you want to skip ahead to it.

What’s interesting is that it comes just after The Mandalorian is told that there’s something dangerous out there and by the time it becomes big enough for him to act it’ll be too late. It looks like the Jedi are going to be integral to the Season 3 plot, and its going to be a whole lot of fun if it results in Grogu getting his hands on a lightsaber.
