The Mandalorian theme song, trailer, age rating and release date

The Mandalorian UK release trailer song and theme

The recent arrival of The Mandalorian trailer has confirmed both the release date and theme song for the Disney+ series as well as giving us a good idea about what kind of age rating should apply. However, our biggest concern is that Disney+ currently isn’t available in the UK, so it’s going to be tough to catch the exciting Star Wars spin-off when it’s released. However, we’ll keep you updated with the latest with the details below and suggested options for UK viewers.

If you don’t know already, The Mandalorian is essentially a kind of Boba Fett spin-off, but without the story featuring him as the lead character. Instead it’s another Mandalorian warrior that it focuses on, who has similar armour and skills. It’s set after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order, and takes place on the outer reaches of the Galaxy where it looks from the trailer anything goes.

Release date and options for UK viewers

The Mandalorian release date has been confirmed for the 12th November 2019 when it will be available to stream in its entirety on Disney+ in the US. However, the new online paid subscription streaming service won’t launch in the UK until 2020, so at the moment there isn’t a clear option to be able to watch the series over here on it’s initial release date.

You can try a VPN solution to subscribe to Disney+ from the UK to watch the series when it releases in November. The other potential option is that Disney might make the series available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital release in the UK, but at the moment that’s unconfirmed, so we’ll have to wait for more details to surface closer to the date.

Disney+ will release in the UK on the 31st March 2020, so you’ll have a few months to wait to be able to catch up with US viewers. However, looking on the bright side, there’s bound to be a Mandalorian Series 2, which should release internationally at the same time.

The Mandalorian cast

There aren’t many really big names in The Mandalorian cast, but the recent D23 Expo 2019 panel for the TV series did confirm that Rocky star Carl Weathers would be one of the main cast members playing Greef Karga, the head of the guild of bounty hunters. The Mandalorian will be played by Narcos star Pedro Pascal (image above) and they’ll have support from Gina Carson as Cara Dune, a former shock trooper.

The cast will also feature Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Jungle Book live action), Emily Swallow (Flight Of The Concords, Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Parks And Recreation) and Nick Nolte (Under Siege, Arthur).

You can follow the official Star Wars Twitter page at https://twitter.com/starwars to see more about the cast in the buildup to the release date.

Theme tune and trailer song

Ludwig Göransson has been confirmed as the composer behind the score for the Disney+ series and you can hear the first snippet of his music in The Mandalorian trailer song below. It’s essentially going to be the theme tune for the streaming TV series and it sets the dark tone and lawless reality of the setting for the show with its heavy notes, steely rings and edgy pace.

The whole piece adds to the excitement of the trailer to perfection, which looks like it could easily be the prelude to a big budget Hollywood movie release as opposed to a TV series. Göransson’s back catalogue of composer credits include Fruitvale Station, Creed and Black Panther, which won him both a Grammy and an Academy Award, and it sounds like he’s crafted yet another hit score if the trailer theme song is anything to go by.

The Mandalorian age rating

As it’s a TV series, The Mandalorian age rating wont be official in the UK, so it’ll be down to parents to make up their mind in terms of who will be able to watch it. You can tell a lot from the trailer, which makes the series look like a notch up on the likes of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker in terms of violence and intensity. Both The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens were given an age rating of 12 and based on the trailer below you can probably adopt a similar stance.
