The Punisher trailer lands with darkness, killing and absolute horror

The PunisherIt’s been a big week for trailers with Tomb Raider and Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle both landing with new videos, and now Netflix and Marvel have gotten in on the action with the debut trailer for The Punisher. The upcoming series has been on the cards for a while now and with the opening series of The Defenders all done and dusted, it’s time for Jon Bernthal to bring the pain.

It’s not the most awe inspiring of trailer with some kind of massive government conspiracy for Frank Castle to wage war against, but we’re hoping the series itself manages to tap into the unrelenting power of the character following his epic debut in Daredevil Series 2. There’s still no air date as of yet, but the video does have a redacted reference to an unspecified date in 2017, so at least we can say that it will be arriving this year.

Marvel’s The Punisher trailer:

There’s clearly going to be some kind of link to the death of Castle’s wife and daughter, which features prominently at the beginning of the trailer. It feels very similar to his plot in Daredevil, so it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not showrunner Steve Lightfood and the production team behind the series will be able to move the story on.

The trailer confirms the return of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, who spent a lot of time with Castle in the second series of Daredevil. She only appears in a fleeting scene though, so she may well be a bit-part-player, but we’re expecting her to be fairly instrumental to the plot development once again.

Another short intro is given to Amber Rose Revah, who you can see striding out of the lift at the Homeland Security offices half way through the trailer. She’s clearly going to be linked with the conspiracy that Frank Castle is investigating and could well be another key character in the story.

The action also introduces Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman / Micro, who will be working with Castle to bring down their shared enemies. As with his comic book hsitory, he’s going to be helping The Punisher with weapons, tech and surveillance, but there’s bound to be a few complexities for them to work through too.

If you’re wondering who the sinister looking scar dude is, he’s played by actor Paul Shulze, who starred in the 2008 Rambo return. It looks like he’s going to be the series’ main antagonist and a head honcho at the CIA, but we’ve seen enemies fall early in The Defenders, so there could be a few surprises in store for The Punisher too.

The music in the background to the trailer is One by Metallica, which sets the tone for the series. Darkness, killing and absolute horror are definitely on the cards by the look of things.
