How to get all abilities in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

How to get all abilities in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Here’s how to unlock all abilities in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to help you get the most out of the game as early as possible. When you first start TotK you might miss Stasis or Revali’s Gale to begin with, but by the time you get all of the new abilities you’ll be able to do pretty much everything from Breath of the Wild and a whole lot more.

We’ll start by covering the ability wheel, which is kind of where the main focus is, including how to unlock each of them. We’ll then cover the Sage abilities, including which ones to get first and how to get your hands on each and every one of them.

How to get all of the abilities on the TotK wheel

Covering off all of the abilities on the wheel you access with L in TotK, these are mostly tied to main quest activities. However, it’s easy to go off in one direction and then not be sure how to close the loop with all of the rest of them.

One of the slots is made up of the Amibo function, so this will be redundant unless you’ve got a suite of the little statues to use in the game. Another is for the Map, which you’ll have straight away, so that covers two of the eight slots available.

You then get four abilities for completing the shrines during the introduction phase of the game, so that will give you Fuse, Ultrahand, Ascend and Recall. If you’re still taking your first steps in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you can read our Great Sky Island guide to get all of the details about how to get them all and complete the shrines.

That takes your tally up to six, leaving just two more to get. The first of these is the Camera and you get this by completing Robbie’s quest in the Depths of the Hyrule Field Chasm.

Talk to him in the area beneath Purah at Lookout Landing to start the Camera Work in the Depths quest and he’ll meet you in there. You can find the chasm to the south of Lookout Landing and then you just jump down and use the glider to land safely.

After this you’ve got to head out in the direction the researcher points you in and you’ll meet Robbie by a statue. He’ll then give you the Camera, which is another of the abilities on the wheel in TotK.

The last one will see you journeying back into the Depths to follow these statues for Josha, who you can find close to where you first spoke to Robbie beneath Purah at Lookout Landing. She’ll send you back to the Depths to follow the statues and you can get back to the one you found earlier by fast traveling to the Iayusus Lightroot to the east of the where you land from the Hyrule Chasm.

When you fast travel in, the statue is right in front of the lightroot. Then, you just need to head out in the direction of where the statue is facing and repeat the same process with each of the statues you find until you get to the temple-like structure that Josha in her quest briefing mentioned.

She also give you ten Large Brightblooms and a bunch of arrows, so you can use these to light the way as you follow the breadcrumb trail of statues. These should come in handy after the third statue, but there’s a lightroot just after the 5th, so you shouldn’t need one here.

When you get to number eight, your path seems to be blocked by Gloom, but if you light the way you can see that you can just go around it. You’ll encounter a Frox close to here, so it’s your call if you want to fight it. Dazzle fruit and some whacks to it’s or weak spot on its back will make short work of it, though.

Keep lighting the way and following the statues. There are more enemies to fight on the way, but you can just ignore them to focus on getting the last of the abilities. After around the 16th statue, you find the temple-like building, so use the glider to get down there and this will bring you to the Great Abandoned Central Mine.

Once you get into the building, you’ll have to fight Master Kohga, who found himself down in the Depths after your battle in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. You can read our notes on how to defeat Master Kohga on our Tears of the Kingdom Bosses page with the link below if you’re struggling, but he’s pretty easy.

Once you do this, you just need to talk to the construct at the Great Abandoned Central Mine and he’ll give you the last of the TotK abilities. This is Autobuild and it allows you to remember device builds and recreate them either out of materials you have or your stock of Zonait.

How to get all of the Sage’s abilities?

Next up you’ve got the abilities you get from the Sages, which you use by interacting with them once you’ve unlocked them. The first four of of these you get from completing the Regional Phenomena, so in general you just need to progress with story quests to get them.

In Hebra you’ll need to get to Rito Village, find Tulin and work with him to get to and complete the Wind Temple. In Zora, you’ll need to work with Sidon to get clues on Zelda, get the Zora armor, and unlock and complete the Water Temple.

In Eldin you need to save Yunobu, defeat Moragia, navigate the Death Mountain Chasm Depths and complete the Fire Temple. In Gerudo Town, you’ll need to get past the sand storm, complete the Riju of Gerudo Town quest and take down the Queen Gibdo as part of the Lightning Temple.

You can use the links above if you’re stuck on any of this, but the tougher test is what comes after you complete all of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom temples. At this stage, you think you’ve unlocked all of the abilities now that you have Tulin’s wind gust, Sidon’s water protection, Yunobu’s fire blast and Riju’s lightning strike, but that’s not the case.

However, the unlock is one of the more challenging in TotK. With all of the Regional anomalies done, you’ll then need to head to Hyrule castle to confront he fake Zelda, which you can see in the video below. After this, you’ll need to defeat what she’s hiding, so our guide to Phantom Ganon should come in handy.

With this done, you can then get into kakariko Village’s Zonai ring ruins and this will see you being sent on a quest to ruins to the south east. You’ll get map markers to follow and prompts in the quest for what to do, but when you get there you’ll need to follow the river and look in the little caves to get the armor you need.

If you’re struggling to get these, you can do Robbie’s Sensor+ quest to be able to track chests. With the armor you can go to the ruin at the head of the river to activate the trigger with Riju’s lightning.

This will then unlock Dragonhead Island chain and you’ll be able to head up there with a new main quest. Follow the map markers and you’ll eventually drop down on the head-like island at the end and find a mask.

Take it down to the map marker back on Hyrule using a Wing and use it to open Tobio’s Hollow, taking you down into a new chasm using an elevator. You’ll then need to complete the Construct Factor by activating the Right Leg Depot, Left Leg Depot, Right Arm Depot and Right Leg depot.

This can be tricky, so you should definitely check out our guide to the Construct Factory to help you get the job done. Once you do this, you’ll unlock the last of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom abilities to give you all of them.

However, you will need to take it for a spin in the Depths to find another temple where you’ll have to defeat the Seized Construct. With this out of the way, you’re home and dry and you’ll just need to get yourself the master Sword and go to take on the final boss fight.
