Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021) UK release date, age rating and parents guide

If you like your canines on the larger and more ruby side of the spectrum then you’re going to be pretty excited about the Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021) UK release date (details below). With the film on the horizon, we wanted to cover everything you need to know about it, so here’s the latest on the age rating, story, runtime and cast, along with our parents guide.

The film is essentially a big screen adaptation of the Norman Bridwell book series and follows the Howard family as they take in a rescue puppy at their New York home. However, it’s magical origins kick in pretty quickly after Clifford arrives and before they know if, they’ve got a giant red dog to take care of.

The story itself comes from the perspective of the youngest member of the Howard family, Emily, who’s having a tough time of things at home and at school. A genetics company starts to take a little too much interest in her new best friend and she’ll need to protect Clifford with the help of her Uncle Casey.

Cast

The cast for Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021) is led by Darby Camp as Emily and British comedian and actor, Jack Whitehall, has her slightly bumbling Uncle Casey. They’re joined by Sienna Guillery as Emily’s mum Maggie, Rosie Perez as Lucille, Izaac Wang as Emily’s friend Owen, Russell Wong as as Owen’s dad and John Cleese (Hold the Sunset) as the magical harbinger of Clifford.

Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021) release date UK

As you might expect for such a huge family film, the Clifford the Big Red Dog release date (UK) was a Christmas arrival. It has had a number of reschedules over the last year or so as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and while it was initially down for the 24th December 2021, it went on to come out on Friday the 10th December 2021, so it was all set to be the must-see family film over the Holiday period.

It’ll have a lot of competition for the box office crown though with The King’s Man out on the 26th December 2021 and The Matrix Resurrections due out on the 22nd. If that isn’t enough, it’ll also have Spider-Man No Way Home, which is out on the 15th. The Matrix Resurrections looks set to top the charts over here for the Christmas holidays, but it’s got a very different audience to Clifford, so it shouldn’t have too much impact on its performance at the box office.

With the film coming out in December in the UK, it should then come out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital around April 2022, which could make it a good one for the Easter Holidays. There are no details as of yet in terms of when it will be streaming in the UK.

Age rating and parents guide

The official Clifford the Big Red Dog UK age rating has now been announced by the British Board of Film Classification with the release date getting closer. It’s been given a PG certification which is in line with the trailer, as well as Paramount’s previous family films. It also picked up the same rating in the US.

There was an outside chance of it picking up a U, but live action films rarely come in under PG, so it’s no surprise it got that rating. In terms of our parents guide, there isn’t that much to be concerned about from the trailer, but language could be a concern. Clifford also accidentally start to eat a pug, but he spits it out pretty quickly afterwards. They have to face the greedy might of a wayward genetics company too, so there’s a little mild threat and violence in the mix.

We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the Paramount Picture website at https://www.paramount.com.

Runtime

Like the age rating, the Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021) runtime wasn’t confirmed until a little closer to the release date. It came in at 1 hour 36 minutes, which was a big six longer than we’d predicted, which is as close to a win as you get in the runtime sweepstakes game.
