Frozen 2 DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K Ultra HD release date UK

Frozen 2 DVD, Blu-ray, digital, rental and 4K Ultra HD release date UK

Frozen 2 hit the bigs screens in the UK in late November 2019, so it’s time to start looking ahead at the DVD release date and when it’ll be coming out on Blu-ray, digital release, 4K Ultra HD and rental. It’s one of the year’s biggest animated titles and Disney’s other big winter release arriving a little ahead of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

With a huge fan base and massive international appeal, plus the might of Disney behind it, the film is going to be a big box office draw. However, it should also be one of the big home entertainment releases when it arrives later this year (see details below).

With the huge back catalogue of Disney films already big DVD and Blu-ray collection fillers, Frozen 2 is bound to be on a lot of wish lists. The big question, though, is how Disney+ is going to impact film releases from the Magic Kingdom going forward. It also launched in the US in November 2019 and it’ll be coming out in the UK on the 24th March 2020.

This will coincide fairly closely with the release date for the DVD, Blu-ray and digital, so it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Disney will stream the film on + from day one. The Mouse House stated that all of its back catalogue will be available eventually, so we’ll be keeping an eye on how the next year or so pans out for its new releases.

DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, iTunes or digital rental in the UK?

The Frozen 2 DVD and Blu-ray release date has been confirmed for the 30th March 2020, so it will be out just in time for Easter next year. As with all Disney animated films it will undoubtedly be coming out on 3D Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD disk, and in all fairness it should look incredible on both from the look of the trailer below.

The first opportunity to buy the film will be with the digital release on iTunes, Amazon, PS4 and Xbox ONE. It’ll be available a couple of weeks earlier than on DVD and Blu-ray, so you’re looking at mid March 2020. However, the digital rental will be the same as the physical release and as ever doesn’t come with any special features that are bundled with the various versions.

You can check out all of the Frozen 2 special features to see what comes bundled with the Blu-ray, 3D and 4K versions of the release.

Runtime and digital file size

Frozen 2 has a runtime of 1 hour and 43 minutes, which is a little above average for an animated feature film, but then Toy Story 4 was 1 hour 40, so this could well be the new norm for Disney. The runtime should work out at a digital file size of 3.95 GB at 1080p HD and 1.63 GB in standard definition.

Age rating and parents guide

The film has been given an age rating of U following in the footsteps of the first film and the rest of Disney’s animated back catalogue. However, the trailer looks fairly fraught at times, so there may well be a couple of jumpy moments and threat for Elsa, her sister and the gang to face. The British Board Of Film Classification parents notes to be aware of are mild threat, very mild violence and rude humour (probably led by Olaf in the case of the latter).

Cinema release date

Frozen 2 came out on the big screen in the UK in November 2019 with a release date of the 22nd. There were a lot of films out on the same weekend, but nothing significant, so it still managed to take the number 1 spot on its opening weekend.

Trailer

As crazy as it sounds, the Frozen 2 trailers have been almost as much of an event as films like Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker or Avengers Endgame earlier in the year. They’ve been like mini films in themselves and you can check out the latest of these with the video embedded below.
