Super Mario Movie rent online release date latest

Super Mario Movie rent online release date

The Super Mario Movie landed in theaters earlier in spring, but if you’re waiting on it coming to home media or for your first chance to see it from a sofa near you then the rent online release date is one to look out for. If you still haven’t seen the film you can check out our no spoilers review with the link further down the page for our take on whether or not it’s worth seeing on the big screen.

The Mario Movie is shaping up to be one of the biggest animated features of the year, so it’s definitely going to be huge on digital rental when it lands. It had it’s opening weekend at the box office during the Easter holidays, so was always pretty much guaranteed the #1 movie spot in both the UK and North America.

It’s got the classic Mario origin story behind it, which begins with the Bros in Brooklyn trying to build up their plumbing business. This takes a spin from left field when they find themselves in the Mushroom Kingdom with Bowser on the warpath and Princess Peach, Donkey Kong and Toad as their best shot at winning the war.

The movie has also got a huge cast list going for it with Chris Pratt as a very good Mario alongside Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Seth Rogan as DK and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. They all work pretty well in their roles and they have the might of Jack Black as Bowser to take on.

To give you everything you need to know about the Super Mario Movie rent online release date we’ll start by covering off the Home Premier early access options. We’ll also cover the later standard rental, as well as where you can see the film outside of these with the streaming services.

Home premier early access rental release

Despite the anomaly that is Avatar 2, which is in the process of skipping on this part of the early access, the home premier rental release for the Super Mario Movie should be your first opportunity to watch the film at home. This normally takes place between 45 and 60 days after it comes out in cinemas, although we’re seeing much more variation in 2023.

With the cinema release date on April 5th, that should work out as being from the latter half of May at the earliest. It would also give us a later time-frame of early June with the possibility for it to be slightly earlier in North America than in the UK.

This should see it going on to be available to rent online from the likes of Amazon Prime Video, iTunes and the Google Play Store. It’s also become the norm for films to be released to buy at a higher price during the early access window, so look out for your options next to rental if you’d prefer to add the Mario Movie to your collection.

As mentioned above, it’s also worth bearing in mind that Avatar The Way of Water did early access very differently with purchase options being the focus in the US and UK. We’re not expecting the Nintendo and Illumination film to be as big, but it is going to be one of the most popular movies out this year, so there could be an element of going a similar way.

Super Mario Movie rent online release date

There will be a much bigger wait for the standard price Super Mario Movie rent online release date and again this could be even later if it follows the Avatar model. However, it definitely looks impressive on the big screen if you’re still mulling it over and this will translate well down to home media.

In terms of timing, you could be looking at August in North America where home media comes out earlier, and September in the UK. These are our earliest estimates, though, so unless there’s some kind of seismic controversy surrounding the film it will probably opt to keep things as being available in movie theaters only for as long as it can.

However, if it goes much later than September in either region then it’ll miss the summer holidays and possibly miss out on a little of the impact. However, if it’s still playing in cinemas throughout summer then it could be fine with that if it can make more from ticket sales than the rent online release.

As ever, the success of the film will be a big factor in determining when it comes to home media, but we’re pretty sure that the Super Mario Movie is going to be huge. This makes a longer run very likely, but as ever, we’ll keep you posted here at Tuppence Magazine.

We’ll know a lot more about standard price rental when the early access arrives, which will give us a little more insight into the release plans for Nintendo and Illumination. With no other big new films out over the Easter holidays it looks like it’ll have a good run, which could extend things.

However, with the break coming to an end in the second half of April there could be a shark decline, which could push things forward for early access around summer mid-term. There aren’t that many films coming out in April, though, with just Beau Is Afraid on the 21st, so it’s sort of one of the only must see films throughout the month until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in May.

Where will it be available to stream online?

As the cinematic release date is just in and the rent online will be coming out later in 2023, it’s unlikely that the Super Mario Movie will be available to stream online any time soon. However, it is highly likely that it will do eventually with 2025 being our best estimate for the time being.

If you look at other previous Illumination animation films like Sing and Secret Life of Pets they’ve had stints on platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. None of them appear to be available at the moment, so it definitely seems like they come and go, but that’s enough to hint at the promise of it coming to one of them in the more distant future.

One reason they might not be on any of the streaming platforms at the moment is to coincide with the huge success of the Super Mario Movie. This way if you want to see any of the other films then you’ll need to buy or rent them, which kind of makes sense.

However, it looking back over the last few years, both Netflix and Amazon are contenders to get to stream the movie at some point in the future. Disney+ is too much of a competitor to be in with a shout and it doesn’t match the content for Apple TV, so that’s probably out too.

Is it possible to stream the Super Mario Movie on Hulu?

Based on everything that has come before it, it’s possible that the Super Mario Movie will be available to stream on Hulu at some point. Illumination films are distributed by Universal Pictures, which is part of NBCUniversal, co-owner of the platform with The Walt Disney Company.

As such, there’s enough of a link to suggest that it might be on the cards at some point with 2025 still our earliest estimate for streaming, but it could be much later. Despicable Me have been on there, but that’s it, so it’s far from a given.
