Official Mad Max: Fury Road trailer

Tom Hardy in the Mad Max: Fury Road official trailerGeorge Miller has finally given Road Warrior fans something to really talk about thanks to the release of the official Mad Max: Fury Road trailer (below), which was revealed over the weekend at Comic-Con 2014. Refreshing the franchise for the modern era on the back of so much cult success was never going to be easy, but Miller has taken his time over the production, which was first discussed back in the 90s, and it looks like it might just pay off.

With such a long development time-frame, the movie has had a lot of ground to build up anticipation and now we’re less than a year away from the full release, which is planned for the 15th May 2015, we’ve finally been given the trailer we’ve been waiting for. It instantly adds to the hype machine as it takes a matter of seconds to shock and impress you with its visual intensity, modern effects, visceral action scenes and reverence to the history of the movie series.

The opening scene in the trailer looks stunning, looking out on a barren desert wasteland beyond the eponymous Max Rockatansky and his much-loved V8 Interceptor Pursuit Special. However, it doesn’t take long for the mayhem and danger of the post-apocalyptic world in which Mad Max exists to spill out on the stunningly beautiful horizon.

From the look of things, a very long haired Max, now played by Tom Hardy (The Drop), is captured early on by a mean gang out in the wilds and must fight to save himself and a band of other survivors along the way. The trailer also features a lot of Charlize Theron, who plays a pretty mean character with short hair, a darkly painted skull and a metallic claw for an arm, looking every bit as dangerous as you’d hope for a Max Max sequel.

There’s bikes, suped-up cars, crazy weapons, wild-eyed baddies and more epic explosions than  all of the previous films put together. If that isn’t enough, Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who adds to her action movie tally, following up on 2011’s Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and fellow actress Abbey Lee Kershaw.

If you’re not familiar with the George Miller movie series, you should probably watch them to get set for the upcoming new addition. You can also check out our Mad Max infographic to see some of the reasons why the films have gone on to be such cult classics – well, definitely the first two anyway. If that’s not enough, you should also be aware that there will be a Mad Max computer game coming out next year too, so not only will you be able to see a new nightmare adventure for Max but you’ll also get to play through one for yourself.
