Going to a gig and seeing something completely different from what you’re used to seeing is a rarity these days. Even rarer is for the “different” to be any good, but that’s exactly what One Fathom Down did at Southwark Playhouse’s A Sonic Love Affair last night (7th March 2010).
Encased in psycho surf metal guitar, the three piece played heavy instrumentals with tremolo bar twangs, introduced by 60s film soundbites and overlaid with massive bass lines and crashing drums.
Sounding like the missing link between the Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill sound tracks, the set was class. With the massive acoustics in the Southwark Playhouse, they sounded huge.
The songs are influenced by the likes of The Shadows, Metallica and Dick Dale (the king of surf-rock guitar). They’re playing gigs throughout London in March and April, including a support set with Dick Dale at the Luminaire in Kilburn on 3rd April 2010.
