Spider-Man No Way Home who dies?

Spider-Man No Way Home who dies

With the Spider-Man No Way Home release date behind us in the UK, it’s time to look at the details for who dies in film, along with our previous predictions. The trailers have set things up with a fairly large host of potential deaths, but the question is which of these have gone on to actually happen.

Obviously, this includes our initial take on things, but we’ll also be discussing what does take place in the film too, so if you don’t actually want to know who dies then you should stop what you’re doing and go do something different instead… Filming your first YouTube short video is our best suggestion with whistling cats, juggling water balloons and Spider-Man No Way Home villain cosplay being your best bets. Combine all three and you’ve got the winning formula.

Absolute nonsense aside, not that many people die in Marvel films, but there are some notable sad moments in recent years with Iron Man, Black Widow and the upcoming T’Challa write out in Black Panther 2. Apart from Uncle Ben and the villains, it’s a similar story with Spider-Man, but there was the horrific Gwen Stacy death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While it had its origins in the comics, it was tough viewing and combined with the dire special effects of Electro and the cringe-worthy Rhino scene to seal the death knell for the Marc Webb arc. Andrew Garfield may well be getting a reprieve for his Spider-Man if the rumors go on to be true, and we already know that Lizard and Electro will feature in the film. The question is whether or not any of them will be biting the big one.

Who dies in Spider-Man No Way Home?

The obvious answer might seem to be the villains. We know that Electro, Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin are being ported into the MCU from their own realities just before they die. It was possible that they’ll have to be sent back to their own dimensions where they will meet their previous fates, but we couldn’t help but feel like this was just too obvious to actually happen.

There are five villains, though, so they could have bumped off the odd one or two of them and still retain an element of MCU Peter Parker’s attempts to save them. Kurt Conners / Lizard and Flint Marko / Sandman don’t die in their realities after they take on Spider-Man, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t in this reality, or aren’t from an alternate reality where they do. However, as it turns out, all of the villains make it out alive by the end of No Time To Die.

In addition to the villains, the other big tell in the trailers is that MJ could well cash in her chips from a fall that has shades of the Gwen Stacy death in The Amazing Spider-Man II. However, that wasn’t really all that well received by fans, so it would be a slight self sabotage for Jon Watts and company to follow in its footsteps so closely.

It’s also unusual to telegraph a death in such a way in the trailer, so the most likely possibility is that it’s designed to leave us asking what if, but this Spider-Man manages to land the save. You can see in the trailer that it looks like Tom Holland is close to taking Zendaya’s hand, so again this seems like a little tension to build anticipation for the film and leave you wondering who dies.

Doctor Strange definitely doesn’t die because he’s got to contend with the Multiverse of Madness next year, so we can count him out. That only leaves Ned, Happy and Aunt May as other possible fatalities in No Way Home and there doesn’t seem to be too many reasons from a story progression point of view for any of them to bite the big one.

That being said, story is only one reason to write someone out of a series. The other reason is that sometimes an actor has come to the end of their contract and want to move on to pastures knew and that could well be the case here. The question is which one of them fits the bill.

Jacob Batalon’s career has literally been propelled by his performance as Ned in the Spider-Man films and while he’s definitely had more work in the last couple of years, we think he’ll still want to keep things going with Tom Holland and the rest of the team in the future.

Jon Favreau has got a fairly successful directorial career with the likes of The Jungle Book and Lion King, but they’re not so frequent as to mean he’s struggling to make time for his role as Happy in the MCU. It looks like he’s having way too much fun with it, so again this has got a low likelihood.

Finally, there’s the brilliant Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and here there might be a fit for who dies in No Way Home. She’s got a long and varied career in film ranging from My Cousin Vinny and Alfie to The Wrestler and The Lincoln Lawyer. She will have done three webbed-slinger films with this one and that might well be all she wrote.

If she’s looking to get back to her previous acting variety then Marvel could well be getting the friendliest elbow in history. It’ll be sad to see her go if she does, but there’s definitely something to the prospect. Of course, it’s also possible that no one dies in the film and they’ll all be saved somehow, but that seems a little unlikely too.
