The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok guide – How to defeat the Water Temple boss

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Mucktorok guide – How to defeat the Water Temple boss

Once you’ve activated all of the faucets at the Water Temple, you might need a few tips from out The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Mucktotok guide. We’ll take you through all of the attack patters, how to avoid getting hit and how to do more damage in the crucial second phase of the boss fight.

You’ll have a large arena to take on the battle, but this is both a benefit and a hindrance at times as you take on the Mucktorok. It moves pretty fast and has some long reaching attacks, so the space is good, but it does make getting to it in blob form for the second phase more challenging.

The Water Temple boss is a weird mashup of two creatures, somehow, with the first being a bouncing blob thing and it’s more dangerous form being a giant purple mud shark. You can only damage it in blob form, so you have to get it to transform to be able to defeat it.

How to defeat Mucktorok

When the Water Temple boss fight begins, Mucktorok will blast mud down beneath it and transform from blob into shark form. It swims around under the mud a bit like a Splatoon-TotK mashup with only its fin showing, but you can use Sidon’s water splash ability to clear the mud, which will see it transform back to blob form.

Once you do this you need to hit it once to bring it down and then you should try to do as much damage against it as possible. If you haven’t already got your best weapon equipped with the strongest Fuse item then now’s the time to do it to help you defeat it as quickly as possible.

You can see in the video guide below that you can get in a transform water hit straight away as soon as the fight starts. This means you avoid Mucktorok’s initial attack and jump straight to your own damage.

Once you’ve done as much damage as possible, it’ll turn back into mud shark form and you’ll get to do the same over again. For it’s charge attack, you just need to run out of the way and for it’s mud laser move you need to run and jump over it.

Try to do this so that you land close enough to blast it with another of Sidon’s water ability moves, giving you another damage opportunity. The attack that is the most difficult to avoid is the mud wave, which you can either run away from if you’ve already got a good amount of distance or sprint and jump over it with glider to get a good position.

If you make sure that you have Sidon’s water bubble around you at all times you’ll have a shield of protection, just in case you do get hit. However, you kind of want to save this for your mud clearing attacks, so try to avoid each of the attacks as detailed above.

When you get Mucktorok’s health down to half way, it’ll get desperate and go into its tougher second phase. This sees it spewing out a load of mud pools all over the Water Temple’s central area, which makes it difficult to move.

If you’ve got a rocket shield, you can cheat this by getting into the air, and shooting it with Splash Fruit, Mark of the King or chuchu arrows to clear the mud. If not then you can either climb the faucet podium to get into glider mode to try this, or clear the mud with Sidon’s ability to give you more freedom to move.

Sprint to avoid its mud flinging attack and then you want to get close enough to it to fire your water shot. This will then give you the challenge of a much more mobile blob form of Mucktorok, which can swim fast from mud puddle to mud puddle, making it difficult to get in your hit to bring it down.

If you’re doing the rocket shield method then you’ll be in glider mode and will get bullet time any time you take out your arrow, so you will be able to get in a shot on it much easier. However, if you’re on the ground then you need to get a bit creative to speed through this section of the Water Temple boss fight.

To do this, you need a TotK area of effect arrow like a bomb arrow or electric arrow. Bomb arrows are made by Fusing bomb flowers and for electric you need either electric Keese wing or eyeball with the latter giving you a homing effect for even more help.

Another alternative for electric AOE is Topaz if you’ve got any. If you’ve only got one you can read more about how to get duplication to work to give you a good batch to fire at Muctorok when it starts moving around fast.

Fire one of these in the general direction of it and this should cover enough ground to hit it, allowing you to get in close to max out your damage. If you want to get creative and you’ve got the devices, you could also do this from up in a balloon, but that might be a bit overkill.

Cycle, rinse, repeat and that should be enough for you to defeat the Mucktorok and complete the Water Temple. This will also add Sidon’s water shield and attack to your abilities for the rest of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, which is definitely going to come in handy.

If the water Temple is the second that you’ve taken on and you’re planning on going to Goron City next, you might want to check out guide for Moragia, which is the first real challenge that you’ll face there.
