In terms of intense rivalries, it doesn’t get more “Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt Slaughter Wrestlemania 3” that the square off between the Glasgow Comedy Festival 2011 and the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

One’s cider, ones lager. One’s far right, the other’s left of centre. One’s got a fringe, the others got a smile. It’s a frantic rivalry and one which the Edinburgh festival has always had the supremacy in terms of global awareness.

However, when it comes to the line-up, this year looks like being a much more closely fought contest. The 2011 Glasgow Comedy Festival has the likes of Russell Kane, Stewart Francis, Tim Key, Frankie Boyle, Greg Davies, Sarah Millican, Josie Lond, Ed Byrns, Rich Hall and Sean Hughes. Professor Brian Cox (Wonders of the Universe) will also be taking part with a night of cosmological comedy called Uncaged Monkeys at the King’s Theatre on Sunday 3rd April.

The Glasgow Comedy Festival this year will be held between 17th March and the 10th April 2010. You can find out more about who’s paying, where they’re doing it, when they’re on and how much the shows cost in the website’s flying head-butt of a festival programme:
