While you’re mulling that over, you can check out the trailer below to get a good idea about what to expect from the movie when it hits the big screen later this summer.
Release date
Scheduled for a release date in the UK on the 6th August 2014, The Inbetweeners 2 may be a UK movie for UK audiences, as was the case with the first release, but it’s one that we’ll all be looking forward to, albeit a little shamefacedly (love that word!). If the new movie is anything like the original, the DVD, Blue-ray and digital download release will probably be just as eagerly awaited as the box office launch.
Story
The story is a pretty logical and effective continuation from the end of 2011’s The Inbetweeners Movie, which saw the four likely lads heading out to Malia for an end of school blow out in the sun. This time around they’re assembled by Jay, who’s taking an exploratory gap year in Oz, to join him for yet another holiday to find the real meaning of the term down under.
Si, Will and Neil inevitably oblige and arrive with high expectations of Australian nightlife to reinvent their love life as they head towards the realities of adulthood. Si, however, has the added complexity of a bunny boiling girlfriend back home to deal with, but as ever with the help of his friends no problem is too big or too difficult to make worse before it gets any better.
Cast
As you’d expect all of the four original main characters are back in action with Simon Bird reprising his role as Will McKenzie, movie narrator and general briefcase ¥$*#er, James Buckley as clunge mad Jay Cartwright, Blake Harrison as the dim witted Neil Sutherland and Joe Thomas as pineapple fringed Simon Cooper. Other notable returnees include Belinda Stewart-Wilson as Will’s fitter than fit mum Polly and the equally brilliant Tamland Kari (Cuckoo) as Si’s slightly sensitive other half Lucy.
Production
Created by Film 4 productions once again and with Damon Beesley and Iain Morris returning to take on the writing duties, there’s a lot of the old comic might involved in the making of the second movie in the series. Beesley and Morris will also be taking over from Ben Palmer in the director’s chair (we assume they each had their own chair in all fairness), but considering the fact that they were two of the four directors from the original TV series it probably wasn’t that much of a significant step up for them.
First thoughts
From the look of the trailer and what we already know about the comedy smarts that went into making The Inbetweeners TV series and first movie so funny, we’re pretty certain that 2 will be just as side splitting. Having seen the original movie’s trailer before watching it at the cinema, we’re also convinced that they will be saving a lot of gags for the film itself, so there should be a lot of unexpected laughs too.
