Scare season is looking set to be a good one with the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie due out in time for Halloween, but if you’re wondering when the rent online release date will be, here’s the latest. We’ll cover things for both early access and standard digital rental, along with notes on where it’ll be available to stream.
The plot for the movie follows a similar direction to the very first Five Nights at Freddy’s game with Mike taking on the role of night security guard at the infamous kid’s pizza party plaza. Josh Hutcherson is in the lead role, so he’ll have to contend with the scary animatronic animals inside.
AdvertisementIn the first game all of the animatronics are bad, so we’re expecting that to be the case in the FNAF movie compared to the helpful Freddy we got in Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach. Either way, it’s set to become one of the biggest films of the year and while it probably won’t get close to Avatar 2 it will probably be the #1 horror movie of 2023.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s early access rental release date latest
AdvertisementThe Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will be out in cinemas on October 27th, 2023, so you can expect it to arrive on early access from as early as late November 2023. As ever, a lot will depend on how successful the film is on the big screen, so if it’s a smash it will be later in December and if it has a rapid decline then it’s more likely to be the earlier date.
One of the big considerations is that it will also be available to stream on Peacock in the US, so that might mean that there are fewer people going to see it on the big screen. However, there will be plenty of fans of the games that have to see it in a cinema to appreciate it properly, so it might still get big numbers.
AdvertisementThe other thing to take into account for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie early access rental release is whether or not it’s going to push for home media in time for Christmas sales. For us it seems like too good an opportunity to miss out on, so it’s a distinct possibility.
If that’s the case then it might make everything early no matter how well it’s doing at the box office. When you look at everything in the round, the end of November seems like a good date for early access in the very least, but we might end up with the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K around then too if Blumhouse Productions plans ahead.
Standard rent online release date
If you’re holding out for the less expensive standard rent online release date for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie you’ll have a much longer wait. It’s always later than the DVD, Blu-ray and digital purchase, but even if they do come out in time for Holidays 2023 the standard rental will probably be well into the New Year.
Our earliest estimate is around the winter half term break in mid-February, which would tie it into a holiday. However, this is also our plan B estimate for the rest of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie home media, so if that’s the case then it might be as late as Easter 2023.
In all fairness, the FNAF movie doesn’t have much in the way of competition at the box office during it’s run, so that could give it a longer run. The other big horror film with a release date in October is The Exorcist Believer earlier in the month, but we’re pretty sure that Freddy’s will take the crown during scare season this year.
It will also be a challenge for Blumhouse Productions to get the DVD, Blu-ray and digital out in time for Christmas, so it could be a longer gap to home entertainment no matter how well it does on the big screen. The streaming deal with Peackock in the States could also come with a time delay for other home entertainment, so again that could hint at the later release date.
Where to watch the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie online (UK and US)
AdvertisementAs mentioned above, if you’re based in the US then you will be able to stream the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie online from the same date as the cinema release (October 27th, 2023) on Peacock. You’re next opportunity to watch the film at home will be with early access, which could be either to buy or rent.
If you’re based in the UK, there are no online streaming deals, so your first home media will be the early access rental with the date analysis detail above. As in the US, this means that it should be available to watch online on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, the Google Play Store, the Microsoft Store and YouTube.
However, it’s definitely possible that the FNAF movie will eventually go on to stream in the UK and with Peacock’s affiliation with Sky and Now TV that’s probably the best bet as things stand. This could be expanded much later on with Netflix being the biggest possibility based on previous Blumhouse films.
For example, both of the first two Insidious movies are on Netflix at the moment in the UK, along with Halloween Kills. The latter came out in 2021, so that means if Five Nights at Freddy’s movie does go on to stream on Netflix, it’s probably going to be a couple of years away at best.
