Wednesday Season 2 new cast members latest

Wednesday Season 2 new cast members

After a brilliant opening season on Netflix, here’s our look ahead at the Wednesday Season 2 new cast members and release date. We’ll take you through the open slots on the cast list following the events in the final episode, as well as the most likely dates for the second season to come out.

The confirmation for Wednesday Season 2 landed with an announcement video from Netflix on the 7th January 2023, but the footage was all taken from the first season. This means that there’s nothing concrete to take from it in terms of who the new cast members are going to be, but that isn’t going to stop us from a little speculation.

We’ve also got a fairly healthy wish list for the cast and you can add to it by sending us a comment over on our Twitter page. If you get any of them right before they’re confirmed by Netflix then we’ll give you a mention below.

Season 1 of Wednesday saw the Addams family’s daughter getting expelled from her local school thanks to a piranha attack incident and being sent to Nevermore Academy boarding school. She soon gets embroiled in school politics, as well as a murder mystery with a killer monster at the heart of it.

While she’s expelled by Principle Weems (Gwendoline Christie), she does get to the bottom of the whodunit, which helps to exonerate her from the more controversial methods she employs. With the second season now confirmed, we’re pretty sure that she’ll be back at Nevermore when things recover from the dramatic early closure of the Academy, but it’ll need a few new faces to recover properly.

What new cast members are needed for Wednesday Season 2

The finale for Season 1 left us with a few holes in the cast list, which will inevitably have an impact on Wednesday Season 2. Obviously, discussing this means talking about the story to-date, so if you haven’t seen the first eight episodes, you should probably head on over to Netflix and finish off Season 1 before reading any further.

For everyone else, the first cast member we’re going to need to replace is Gwendoline Christie, who played Principle Weems in the first season. Her character was a big part of the success of Wednesday and she’ll be sadly missed after she was killed off at the hands of Laurel Gates / Marylin Thornhill.

The killer in disguise was also taken out of the equation, so Nevermore will also need a new Botany teacher, as well as a replacement principle. It’s possible that Gates will find a way to return, so we might see a sort of surprise return to the cast from Christina Ricci, who played the Wednesday in the films from the 1990s.

We also saw Tyler getting shipped off at the end of the season finale, so this could also leave a gap in the cast, but we’re pretty sure he’ll be back in one way or another. However, there were a number of other deaths at the hands of Tyler’s Hyde monster form, which means we’ll probably get some new cast additions as students of Nevermore, new arrivals to the town, a replacement mortician and a new mayor.

Wednesday Season 2 new cast members wish list

For the new principle at Nevermore, a good option would be Anjelica Huston, who played Morticia alongside Christina Ricci in the Addams Family movies. Her last role on the big screen was as the narrator for The French Dispatch, plus she recently played The Director in John Wick 3.

With Gwendoline Christie in the role for Season 1, it seems likely that they’ll go with another big name. Tilda Swinton would be another good suggestion, along with Sigourney Weaver, Lena Headey, Lea Seadoux, Olivia Coleman, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, Rachel Weisz, Jillian Anderson, Rosamund Pike, Sophie Okonedo (The Wheel of Time), Natalie Portman, Rosario Dawson and Kathryn Hahn.

If they opt for a male actor in the role, then Idris Elba is a good shout, along with any of the recent Doctor Who stars, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. Warwick Davis and his fellow Willow TV series star Amar Chadha-Patel could work too, along with Pedro Pascal, Ian McDiarmid (Star Wars), Hugh Grant, Sacha Baron Cohen and Peter Mullan (Mum).

Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Michelle Dochery, Kristen Bell, Awkwafina (Shang-Chi), Tuppence Middleton and Christina Applegate are good options for the new botany teacher. Christina Ricci might be back one way or another, but they’ll still need that extra member of the alumni no matter what.

It’s possible that they’ll go for a male Botany teacher in Wednesday Season 2, but we’re doubtful. Daniel Levy has already joined as a teacher for Sex Education Season 4, so he’s out of the equation already. Other options include Leslie Odom Jr., Paul Rudd, Hayden Christensen and Lee Pace.

For the new cast member to be students and/or townsfolk, Timothée Chalamet would be a good shout on the bigger name side of the spectrum, but he might be a bit busy with all of his other projects. We’d definitely like to see more of Ronnie Chieng, continuing the Shang-Chi love, any of the cast of Sex Education cast, Stranger Things actors Caleb McLaughlin, Joseph Quinn, and Grace Van Dien and Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy).

David Harbour would be great as the new mayor, but as with the new students and townsfolk it’s unlikely that they’ll have the budget to go for a big name here as well as with the new principle. Continuing the Stranger Things link, there’s also Tom Wlaschiha, but it will probably be a lesser known actor that they choose to join the new Wednesday Season 2 cast.
