First images of Disney’s Star Wars land

Disney Star Wars LandDisney has just released the first images of its Star Wars Land ahead of its huge annual expo, D23, and it looks pretty impressive. The images were taken from a large model that has been created to showcase the design behind the upcoming addition to the magic kingdom.

The overall style feels like a cross between Padme’s home planet of Naboo and the desert planet of Tatooine, with design features that resemble Mos Eisley and Jabba the Hut’s palace. It it may not seem as varied as you might have expected from a land trying to cover the incredible movie franchise, but it appears Disney has scaled it to focus on the origins of the series instead of all of the worlds and constructions that feature in the iconic movies.

Disney's Star Wars LandThere is no Death Star, Ice Planet of Hoff, Dagobah swamps, Gungan underwater kingdom, the futuristic structures of Kamino and Corusant or the forest landscape of the Moon of Endor featured in the model. However, you can see the Millennium Falcon in the image above and in the video from Disney Parks below.

It has previously been revealed that visitors to Star Wars land will be able to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon to lead a secret mission set close to the new trilogy timeline, which started with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There are no details on how this is going to be experienced as of yet, but we’re expecting some sort of simulator inside the Millennium Falcon at the park, similar to the Back To The Future ride at Universal Studios.

Star Wars land is under construction at the moment at both Disneyland in California and what Disney World in Orlando Florida and it is planned to open in 2019. It’s the same year that Star Wars Episode IX will be opening at cinemas to finish off the new trilogy, so it’s going to be a big year for fans of the sci-fi space opera.

The rest of the D 23 expo will take place on Sunday, 16 July 2017 where attendees will be able to get a close-up look at the model on display. It’s also feature the latest from Disney’s upcoming movie roster, which should include more on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which we’ve already had teaser trailers for. There’s bound to be a new trailer in the very least, but were also hoping to find out more about the story and the characters that are going to be involved in the second film in the trilogy.

In addition to the news on Star Wars Land and the prospect of more on The Last Jedi at the conference, we should also get to find out more about Pixar animated features like The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4, which have both been announced in the past. There should also be a few new films revealed, so it’s going to be pretty exciting weekend with a whole host of news from Disney coming our way.
