Mario Golf Super Rush how to hit the ball further to do longer shots

If you’ve been driving away with wild swings in Mario Golf Super Rush and you’re looking to figure out how to hit the ball further, the good news is that you can land it with ease. There are three main ways to do longer shots – power, spin and wind – and you can read more about each one in the sections below to help you boost your hitting potential in the game.

There’s an old phrase though in golf that goes driving for show, putting for dough. Put simply, there’s more importance on good chip shots onto the green and putting than hitting the ball harder and farther. However, getting longer shots will definitely help, so here are all of your options to maximise your big swing.

More power to hit further

In Adventure Mode, you get to level up your Mii character and one of the areas you can improve is power. You will then be able to take your improved Power Mii character to play in online and local multiplayer, giving you longer shots across the board. It only works for your Mii character, though, so if you want to play as Mario or the other peeps from the Mushroom Kingdom, then you’re going to have to use the other methods in the sections below.

To apply Power increases, you need to get more Xp in Adventure Mode by completing tournaments. You can play these multiple times to pick up more Xp. At the end of a tournament, you’ll then get upgrade points once you get enough Xp to level up. Power is the first option in the list on the right hand side, so increase this when you can and you can see in the details how much like further you can hit the ball with each incremental upgrade.

If you play online multiplayer and you see an opponent hit the ball a lot further than yours with their Mii character, then you know you need to head back into Story mode and ground out the Xp for more power.

Getting longer shots with topspin

In addition to power cranking, you can also hit longer shots in Mario Golf Super Rush by applying topspin. This won’t increase the distance the ball flies through the air – known as carry – but it will increase the distance it rolls and bounces when it lands. This can be good for your initial drive or for longer mid hole shots to get you onto the green for those all-important birdie and eagle shots.

To land topspin you need to press A to initiate the swing setup and then double press A again at the level of power that you want to hit. If you’ve done this correctly then you will see the word topspin next to the swing meter and then when the ball lands it will have a crackling lightning animation to it as it rolls further over the grass.

You can see demos for both topspin and backspin in the video below to see them in action.

Taking advantage of wind to get more distance

Early on in Mario Golf Super Rush, wind doesn’t really come into the process of hitting the ball longer, but from Wildweather Woods onwards it starts to come into effect. Equally, you can apply weather conditions for single player and multiplayer matches, so it’s definitely good to take advantage of it when you get the chance.

You can see the wind direction and speed in the top left corner of the screen when you’re getting set to hit the ball. Any time you see it going even slightly in the direction of where you’re aiming, you can use it to get more distance.

To do this, you need to hit the ball higher by pulling down in the right stick after you’ve set your power level and this will lift the ball a little more. The wind will then have a greater effect and carry your ball further. You just need to compensation for and side wind that might by there if the arrow is pointing to the left or right.

You can also combine all of these points to land even longer shots to crush your driving capabilities even further. See more about Mario Golf Super Rush on the Nintendo Switch with the official Nintendo Twitter page.
