Morbius UK release date, age rating latest and more

Morbius UK release date, age rating and parents guide latest

Jared Leto hasn’t had a lot of success in comic book roles, but with the upcoming UK release date of Morbius (details below) he’s going to attempt to start afresh. It’ll be a blood-thirsty role, so here’s everything you need to know about the film, including the latest on the story, cast, UK age rating and our parents guide, plus estimates for the runtime.

In all fairness to Leto, his only other comic book role was Joker in The Suicide Squad, and then in Zach Snyder’s Justice League, but that didn’t hit the same highs as other stars that have taken on the character. This time around, though, he’ll play anti-villain Michael Morbius, who find a cure to a rare blood condition he suffers from, only to get a new, more dangerous condition as a result.

In the aftermath, he discovers that he has a whole host of super powers, ranging from strength and agility to echolocation and fast travel. However, the down side is that he also has a vampire-like blood lust that sort of makes the cure worse than the disease that he was trying to get over.

Cast

In addition to Jared Leto in the lead role, the Morbius cast also features includes Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Terminator Genisys) and we’re expecting him to the main antagonist of the film with Loxias Crown / Hunger as the main contender. They’ll be joined by Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jared Harris (Carnival Row), Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson (F9), as well as Michael Keaton, who will be returning to the role of Adrian Toomes / The Vulture, following on from his debut in the role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Morbius release date UK

The UK release date for Morbius has now been put back until the 31st March 2022 following a number of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s due out in the US on the same date having recently been moved from the 28th January 2022 with the Omicron variant’s impact on cinema ticket sales being the most likely reason for the change.

It looks like it’ll have its opening day to itself with nothing big coming out on the same date. However, with The Lost City out on the 25th March and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on the 1st April it won’t be all plain sailing. If that isn’t enough competition, there’s still the residual impact of The Batman, which is the number one film in the UK.

With the late March 2022 release, it should come out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital in the UK around July 2022, which is a good shout for summer holidays sales. There’s no word as of yet in terms of when it will be streaming as of yet.

Age rating and parents guide

The official Morbius UK age rating has been confirmed by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) a couple of weeks ahead of the release date. Its been given a 15 certificate similar to other Sony Pictures and Marvel collaborations, like Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and its predecessor Venom.

As a result, you might want to expect parents guide notes to include strong threat, horror and violence, which fits the bill with Michael Morbius’ living vampire thing. There are teeth, claws and blood in the trailer, so there’s bound to be even more in the full film when it releases next year.

We’ll update you with more details on the film as they get confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep tabs on the latest upcoming films, or visit the Morbius movie website at https://www.morbius.movie/.

Runtime

As with the age rating, the runtime for Morbius will only get confirmed when we get a little closer to the release date. However, if you’re looking for an estimate, you can go off Venom, which clocked in at 1 hour 52 minutes, which indicates that the 2 hour mark is a good bet.
