Tip #1: Put down as much paint as possible

You need to focus the majority of your activity on laying down as much paint as possible if you want to get the most points out of each game and secure more wins. It might be tempting to get into scraps with the other team, but this won’t win you games.

Priority 1 should be on covering as much of the ground as possible with your team’s paint. If you encounter the opposition team then do what you can to take them out, but the most important thing is paint coverage, so make that job 1 throughout each of your Turf War Battles.

Tip # 2: Control the middle ground

The key to covering more paint than the other team is to make sure you spend most of your time trying to control the middle section of the map with a good amount of paint. This is where the battle will be won and lost, so if can keep it painted more with your colour then you stand a better chance of beating the other team.

Tip #3: Think about the team win

Remember that when it comes to most things in Splatoon 3, Turf War is all about the team win. Team work makes the dream work, and you need to keep that in mind when you play. Sticking together and pushing forward as a unit gives you protection, so that you can control more ground.

Tip #4: Don’t get splatted!

It might sound like a no-brainer, but it’s all the more important when you work out how much time it costs you when you do get splatted. As a result, it’s better to stay out of the way of trouble, instead of heading straight into the heart of the shoot-out.

In Turf War you can often win more games by retreating more than by holding position and fighting it out. It’s better to live to fight another day, so that you can cover more ground with paint. Keep moving and inking the ground to reduce the amoutn of times you get splatted.

Tip #5: Choose strategic locations to return to the action

When you do get splatted and return to base, you’ll have the option to fly back into the battle, so it’s important to choose your location strategically. Your respawn point has a big impact on how well you do during each phases, so it’s worth thinking about your location and what it means.

Don’t just jump straight back into the very centre of the fight. Instead, you’ll be better off aiming for areas where there is enemy paint to cover on the outer fringes, which will help you to win more battles and get splatted less frequently. From there you can push for the advantage with the middle ground tips above.

Tip #6: Swimming from the base can be better than spawn points

Sometimes it’s better to simply swim from your base, instead of respawning in the thick of the fight, even with the tip above about aiming for the fringes. This is especially true if the opposition has control of the middle ground and they seem better than your team.

Swimming up means that you can re-paint any ground they’ve taken close to your base. It also means that you can approach the middle areas with caution and plan your move to build up your paint coverage. You’ll be more stealthy that way, so you can get back to getting more ground coverage.

Tip #7: Outflank the opposition

Being good at Splatoon 3 often means being smarter than the other team. One of the best ways to do this is to try to out-flank the opposition. To do this, what you’re trying to do is to use one of the side routes to sneakily get behind them, which is where they’ll least expect you.

If you can work your way to the side and around the back then you’ll have the element of surprise on your side and you’ll get to cover some good ground along the way. Don’t make splatting the enemy the focus of this activity though, it’s still all about the paint, so outflank and cover the ground.

Tip #8: Reduce the time you spend close to the enemy base

Be very cautious about spending too much time close to the enemy base, because this will be where the enemy is at its strongest. Zip in, drop some paint and get back to the middle ground control. If you’re close to the enemy base you’ll be isolated and outnumbered, so unless you’re a Splatoon 3 ninja, then you’ll end up getting splatted more often.

Tip #9: Aim high

Aiming high when you’re inking ground means that you’ll be more prepared for encounters with the opposition. It means that you will be able to splat your opponents quicker, so keep your trigger up at all times. This should be the case no matter what weapon you use, even the roller.

Tip #10: Get to know all of a weapons’ abilities

For example, if you’re using the roller, don’t just roll. Instead, make sure that you splat it at enemies by pressing ZR. You can also get do a jump splat, which gives you more long distance range. Only roll over enemies when they’re not coming straight at you with their guns blazing.
