Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope final boss

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is the second installment in the series and the final boss fight lives up to expectations. We already know who the main villain is in the game, so this gives us some pretty good ideas about what to expect at the end of the action.

The story starts out as Mario + Rabbids in space where they’ve discovered Sparks, which are powerful beings that are a mix of Rabbids and Lumas from Super Mario Galaxy. Things get a little sticky for them when an entity called Cursa attacks Princess Toadstool’s castle, destroying Sparks as it goes in a bid to take their power to spread its dark matter influence (Darkmess) far and wide.

You can see the dark tentacle mass early on in the game at Beacon Beach, the first planet you encounter on the journey to the final boss fight. It’s essentially a messy black substance with flailing blob appendages and it blocks Mario and the Rabbids’ path through the planets.

Who will be the final boss?

There wasn’t any official confirmation on the Mario + Rabbits Sparks of Hope final boss before the launch, but there was a lot to go on from the details about the game and what went down in the first entry in the series. We know that Cursa is behind the Sparks and Darkmess devastation that’s sweeping the galaxy, but we didn’t know exactly who or what the entity is.

This meant that it could have been a brand new character, or possibly linked to another character from the long history of Super Mario games. However, with Bowser on team Mario + Rabbids this time around, he was ruled out of the equation instantly, but with the arrival of the game we now know the full truth.

In Kingdom Battle Bowser was used by Megabug at the end of the game to become MegaBowsrDragon. Luckily, the team of heroes were able to beat the final boss and save Bowser in the process, which could explain why he’s cool with helping them in Sparks of Hope.

There were plenty of other contenders, though, but a return of Megabug in Cursa form was the highest up on the list and that has gone on to be the case. The two names have got links to the computer world, so the tells were there early on for the main villain to be a new incarnation of the Kingdom Battle baddy, having found the power of Sparks and Darkmess.

Another option was someone like Wart, the main boss from Super Mario 2 (1988), which would have been cool. The character hasn’t been seen since his cameo in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening back in 1993, although he did feature similarly in the remake for the Nintendo Switch.

Another thing we considered was Cursa’s frame, which is fairly long and slim, and there’s only really one Mario protagonist that fits that. Waluigi hasn’t actually fronted his own game as the lead villain, so it would also have been fun to see a Darmess version of him amped up on Sparks power and plotting to take over the galaxy.

This wouldn’t have been his first appearance in the series, because he was one of the bosses in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. He was in Rabbid form at the time, with the name Bwaluigi, so it could have theoretically build off that somehow.

Like, after he was saved from being a Rabbid, the Megabug entity could have retained an element of control of Waluigi, building it up over the intervening years to become Cursa. It was a theory that has a lot of merit, but there was no Waluigi to be seen anywhere near the final boss fight.

Instead, it was just Megabug, which had survived just enough after the battle in the first game and slowly regenerated. His power got supersized when he got hold of the Sparks and the rest is a big splodge of Darkmess history.

How to beat the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope final boss

You can check out the video below to see a strong strategy to beat Cursa in the final boss fight. To finish things off in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, you’ll need to start by using the spikes to inflict damage on Cursa’s floating hands.

Once you’ve done that, you can then start to attack Cursa’s chest star, which will free it’s hold on the sparks. After that it’s a case of powering up Rosalina’s wands three times to finish it off, hopefully once and for all.

The gameplay has changed a little since Kingdom Battle, so if you played that the same tips won’t necessarily apply. However, if you’re good at strategy games in general then you should be fine here and for everyone else the how to video above will help you defeat the beast.
