The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Riju of Gerudo Town quest

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Riju of Gerudo Town quest

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s Riju of Gerudo Town quest is easily the toughest of the four Regional Phenomena, but our guide will give you some quick tips on how to make it through the quest relatively easily. This all starts off when you get past the sand storm into Gerudo Town, and you head off to find Riju.

If you’re like us then you’ve probably saved the Riju quest as the last of the Regional Phenomena. If you have, this works out well because the puzzles in the Lightning Temple and the boss you get at the end of it are the most difficult in our books.

If you haven’t already, it’s a good idea to visit the secret shop in Gerudo Town to get the rest of the Desert Voe outfit. You can also get the Sand Boots from the shop, so it’s well worth a trip.

If you’re not too sure where to find it you can see the location in the video below. If you’re low on funds, you can read our page on how to get duplication to work to help you get more high value items to sell.

Where to find Riju?

After you get into the Gerudo Town shelter in TotK, you’ll have to go to find Riju, but she isn’t that far away. You can find her in the ruins to the north of town and the lightning is a real giveaway that you’re in the right location.

Don’t worry, though, it’s just Riju practicing her special ability, which you’ll get to add to your arsenal in the quest. If you’re looking for a quick way to get to her, you can fast travel to the shrine at the top of the palace and use the glider to get on over to the map marker that you get to follow.

You’ll then get an introduction to Riju’s ability with a couple of practice moves against the dummies in the area. It turns out that it works best when combined with Link and a well placed arrow shot.

Repel the Gibdo attacks

After that, one of her guards arrives to say that there’s trouble at Kara Kara Bazaar where the Gibdos are attacking. You can then meet Riju there to use her ability to defeat the. Once you use the lightning move on them they become susceptible to damage, so you should be able to wade through them without too many problems.

You have to make sure that the lightning bubble reaches the Gibdos before you fire your arrows. It’s a similar situation with the hives, but they can also close, so don’t waste arrows on them unless they’ve got the pinky-purple glow halfway up.

Next up is a trip back to Gerudo Town to repel another attack. You need to repeat the process with three waves of them at different locations throughout the town. Just make sure that you protect Riju from attacks as you go as the quest will fail if you don’t keep her in action.

Riju’s mural and lighting the pillars quest arc

After the attack, you meet Riju in the shelter underneath Gerudo Town and she shows you a mural with a clue about what to do next. She tells you that you need to face out to the desert at the back of the throne room and light the red pillars.

Looking out back from Riju’s throne, you can’t miss the pillar that you need to aim for first. Head on over there and smash the broken blocks in the base to reveal the light. You then need to get to the top level, so you can either device it up there or ride the updraft wind swirls in the desert.

From here you can see the direction that the light is going and ride your glider over to it. If you can catch another updraft then you can make it to the second of the pillars without touching down.

To get the second of the pillars to catch the light and reflect it you need to bypass it to the mini pillar next to it with the the turn switch on top. Turn that and the main pillar will raise up and pass on the light to the third pillar.

Again, get to the roof and follow the light to the next one and you need to get the devices and levers up to the roof to be able to turn the crank. You can try to use the levitating devices to edge things up, but it’s more of a guarantee and less frustrating to stick everything together end to end.

Lean it up against the pillar and then get to the platforms around the pillar with an updraft. Grab it with Totk’s Ultrahand and lean it on the roof. Get some more glider air with an updraft and get to the roof to carry it the rest of the way.

Once it’s up there you can break it apart and attach the arms to make the wheel crank, tarn it to connect the last of the pillars and you’re done. If you’re struggling with this last one or any of the others you can see the whole thing in the video below or skip to the last pillar at 07:17.

When you’ve got them all aligned you can meet Riju in the center and use her lightning ability to hit the plinth sticking out of the desert. This will trigger the Lightning Temple to rise up out of the sand and give you your next big challenge in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s Riju of Gerudo town quest. The boss is particularly tough, so check out our Queen Gibdo guide if you need any tips.
