The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom sick grandma - How to lower prices in Kakariko Village

If you’re looking for the solution for the sick grandma and how to lower the prices in Kakariko Village in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, we’ve got you covered. The good news is that you just need a simple porridge recipe to cure Laski and Claree’s grandmother.

We’ll take you through all of the TotK ingredients you need to include first. You might already have these in your items inventory, but if you don’t we’ll also talk you through where to get them from to save you some time.

You can get to Kakariko Village as soon as you touch down to Hyrule from the Great Sky Island. Apart from nostalgia from The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, the big draw in TotK is the armor sets in the shop.

The problem is that because of the sick grandma the shop keeper Laski has had to put the prices up way high. It’s very unlikely that you’ll have enough funds for all six items even if you arrive at Kakariko Village later in Tears of the Kingdom, so you definitely want to lower the prices.

A cure for sick grandma

When you talk to Laski at the armor shop in Kakariki Village, she tells you that her sick grandma has been near the chasm close to the village. She’s suffering from Gloom sickness and it’s something that you’ll get afflicted with when if you get hit down in the Depths or if you walk on the Gloom for too long.

You can then find Claree sitting outside their cottage at the top of Kakariko Village next to a cooking pot, and with this, along with all of the talk about porridge, you know that the cure has got to be a recipe. The sick grandma is in the house next to Claree and you can head on in there to try talking to her, but the real clues come from her granddaughters.

They talk about porridge using Hylian rice and milk, but it’s the secret ingredient that you really need to make a porridge that actually cures the sick grandma. The clue for this is in the descriptions for the ingredient and you should definitely get into the habit of reading these.

Sundelion is the key to the cure and you’re bound to have at least one of these in your items by this stage. They’re all over Great Sky Island and they’re yellowy-orange flowers, so check your inventory to see if you’ve got some already. You can also find them on other sky islands throughout The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

Mix this with some Hylian rice and milk in the cooking pot next to Claree in Kakariko Village and you’ll get the porridge that you need. Talk to Claree and she’ll smell the porridge and you’ll both head on over to her sick grandma to administer the cure.

If you also need the Hylian rice and milk, you can read more in the section below, but even when you do lower the prices at the shop, you’ll still need a good number of rupees. You can read our guide on how to get rupees fast to help you out with this.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that the sets in the Kakariko Village armor shop are a big part of getting overpowered in TotK. You can read more about how to us this to turn Link into an absolute tank in our guide to becoming OP fast.

How to get the ingredients to cure grandma

If, for some reason, you don’t have any Sundelion, you can simply fast travel back to any of the shrines up at the Great Sky Island – or any other island you have a fast travel point for – and you’ll find the flower out in the sun. You can cook this up in a variety of meals to make Gloom fixing recipes that give you back your hearts after they crack in chasms.

Play around with the ingredients when you make Gloom heart fixing meals for your own travels down into the Depths, especially for the final boss fight. For example, mixing three Sundelion with a couple of Raw Prime Steaks and you’ll get a Sunny Steamed Meat dish that will fix nine hearts and refill five of them.

If you’re also wondering where to get the rice and milk, the granddaughters mention mobile shops to the south of Kakariko Village, so these are an option. However, you can also get both ingredients from the shop in Lookout Landing, so you can always just fast travel to the skyview tower there to pick them up.

Make sure you’ve been to the shrine on top of the hill overlooking Kakariko Village before you leave, though. Otherwise you won’t have a way to get back quickly, which will make the whole process a lot more slow.

Once Claree gives the porridge to her sick grandma, she recovers quickly and Laski will show up and talk about her plan to lower her prices in at the shop. This will give you everything you need to complete this part of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

The lower prices are still pretty high, so if you’re short on funds you can read more about how to get duplication to work to help you get more high value items to sell. There’s a diamond in a chest at the top of the tower in Hyrule Castle and they’re worth 500 rupees, so you can duplicate this to get what you need.

Once Laski has lowered the price, she will also talk about heading off to start her career in fashion at Hateno Village. You’ll then be able to visit there to pick things up for more armor and outfit unlocks if you’re building out your inventory.
