Violent Night Netflix streaming updates

Violent Night Netflix streaming

David Harbour has taken a very strange turn in the Upside Down, coming out as a hard-hitting Santa Clause, so here’s what we know about the prospect of the Violent Night Netflix streaming. It’s a film that looks like a strong contender for Netflix with the star’s experience on the service over the last seven years or so.

Harbour played Hawkins police of chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things since the very beginning, which is the biggest link between the film and Netflix. However, other than that, there isn’t much of his back catalogue that’s available on the streaming service.

For example, his last film before Violent Night was the MCU superhero flick, Black Widow, which is a Marvel Disney exclusive. That means that it will never arrive on Netflix, because it’s locked in for competitor service Disney+.

That doesn’t mean it’ll be the same for Violent Night, but it isn’t out of the question entirely. It isn’t made by Disney, so it isn’t as locked down as MCU films like Black Widow and Thunderbolts where Harbour will reprise his role as Red Guardian, but it isn’t made by Netflix either.

Is Violent Night available to stream on Netflix?

As things stand, Violent Night isn’t available to stream on Netflix and currently there are no plans for it to be available to watch. That’s not to say it won’t arrive on the streaming service eventually, but at the moment it’s not an option.

The film has been made by 87North Productions, which made Kate for Netflix back in 2021, so there are links to factor in. It also made Brad Pitt action film Bullet Train, which is another eventual streaming contender with no definite plans to arrive on the service.

David Leitch is the senior producer at 87North, who made his directorial debut with John Wick back in 2014, and a number of his films have already had stints on Netflix. However, Amazon Prime Video seems to have cornered the market for this kind of film with the first three John Wick films available to stream for free for subscribers.

As a result, it’s definitely possible that Violent Night might come to Netflix at some time, but it’s far from a foregone conclusion. If it does stream, it’ll be for a limited time as the service tends to try to focus on its own original content these days.

Will Violent Night be available on another service like Hulu or Amazon Prime?

The fact that so many of David Leitch’s John Wick films are available on Amazon Prime Video is a pretty good indicator that Violent Night might land there too at some point. Bullet Train is already available to rent online for next to nothing, but that’s not the case across the board.

Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Nobody aren’t on there to stream for free and they’ve been out for years. It looks like it might just come down to occasional streaming rights with Netflix and Amazon Prime as the lead contenders.

However, there is one other possibility with the links to Universal Pictures as the distributor for Violent Night. NBC Universal owns a minority stake in Hulu alongside Disney as the majority owner, so it’s also possible that it might land on Hulu eventually too.

Where to watch Violent Night if not Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu?

The reality is that it’s fairly unlikely that we’ll get Violent Night available to stream on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu any time soon. The film is still out on the big screen and it’s done pretty well at the box office, so there’s just no need to rush things.

Your next opportunity to watch the film outside of the cinema will be early access options like Home Premier on Amazon Prime. This should be available towards the end of January or early February in the UK and it’s already out in the US.

After that, there’s the Violent Night DVD, Blu-ray and Digital, which is expected around Easter 2023 in the UK and a little earlier in North America. If you’re determined to wait it out until it streams as part of one of the subscriptions services then you’re probably looking at winter holidays 2024 as our earliest estimate.
