50/50 DVD review

50/50 DVD50/50 works quite well as a DVD but perhaps more as a rental than a purchase. The story line follows Adam Lerner, played quite well by Joseph Gordon Levitt, as he struggles to come to terms with a rare form of cancer at the age of 27.

Though the subject matter and overall delivery in 50/50 is quite heavy the film is really funny in parts. The majority of the comedy comes from Seth Rogan, and his style works so much better within the stark nature of the movie.

He plays Adam’s wayward best mate Kyle and when it all goes wrong he’s always there to deliver brutally funny lines. However, as a whole the film is let down slightly by the ending that doesn’t live up to the real life potential of the majority of the rest of the film.

50/50 should really have been a sad and poignant film that struggles through a bad situation with a good dose of comic timing. On the whole that’s exactly what it is, but there are one or two key scenes that deflates its impact.

50/50 DVD review: 3.4/5
