Birds Of Prey premier takes place in the UK

Margot Robbie Birds Of Prey premier UK

Margot Robbie, Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and the rest of the Birds Of Prey cast flocked to London, UK last night (29.01.20) for the world premier of the Harley Quinn breakout flick. You can watch the red carpet introduction to the event in the video below, which starts off with Chris Messina who plays psycho killer Victor Zsasz signing a few autographs to the fans that braved the cold to line the red/mustard carpet.

The cast dominate the canary yellow carpet

There’s always something chaotic about red carpet premiers, and the bedraggled reality of a cold night in London doesn’t exactly scream Hollywood glamour. However, as soon as Mary Elizabeth Winstead take to the floor that’s exactly what you get with the Huntress looking every bit as cool out of the film as she does in-character.

The actress is known for her darker roles having starred in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, The Thing, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Fargo Series 3, where she worked alongside Ewan McGregor. Birds Of Prey may not be another horror or thriller as such, the 15/R rating it’s picked up should be enough to tell you that there’s going to be a lot more violent action than the trailer would seem to imply.

Fair play to Margot Robbie too for fazing the cold in a feathery two piece outfit while having to pose for ages for photos with the papping press. She also spends a long time signing autographs and talking with the crowd. Literally, everyone else has got winter coats on and she’s just nailsing it out. Maybe, the long skirt section of her outfit has a built in heater or something.

World premier interviews

One of the most interesting points in the world premier video below is an interview with producers Bryan Unkeless and Sue Kroll with the latter making a great statement about getting to explore the various facets of the Harley Quinn character. She mentions her crazy side, which we kind of got to see in Suicide Squad, but also her more loveable and tender side, so it should be interesting getting to see it all unfold when the release date lands in February 2020.

It echoes a little of what Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix did in Joker. Hopefully, it means that we’re going to get more in-depth character driven stories from DC, which is definitely a good thing.

There are interviews with most of the cast, with each of them talking a little about their character and their experience working on set together. There’s also a really funny interview with Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez and Jurnee Smollett-Bell together towards the end of video (45:30), which is worth a watch. The chat about Margot Robbie’s influence on the film is really interesting and then the mention of all the things that make Birds Of Prey so unique also adds to the prospect of getting to watch the film when the release date arrives in a couple of weeks.

Birds Of Prey music

In addition to the cast members, the UK world premier video below also features a lot of the music from the film, including Diamonds by by Megan Thee Stallion & Normani. The soundtrack goes well with the style of Birds Of Prey and you can check out the full track listing for the music, along with the soundtrack trailer at www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/birds-of-prey-music-soundtrack-trailer-track-list/ to take a listen to some of the big songs.

First impressions of the film

The arrival of the world premier hasn’t revealed any full reviews as of yet with the embargo still in play at the time, but there is a lot of reaction online to sift through. The vast majority of it is positive with a lot of praise for Margot Robbie’s performance and the impact of the comedy on the film. Hopefully, this means that the end result is as impressive as trailer 2 seemed to imply and that we’re actually in for another strong DC film following the success of Joker.
