Due Date (2010) – Planes, trains and Galifianakis

After the success of The Hangover last year, and previous directorial comedy offerings of Road Trip and Old School, Todd Phillips is back in the directors seat with Due Date. With Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man 2), Zack Galifianakis and Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down) along with large swathes of the crew that made The Hangover so good.

The plot follows Peter Highman (Robert Downy, Jr.) as he tries to cross America to see the birth of his first child. However, along the way he meets aspiring actor, Ethan Tremblay (Zack Galifianakis), and in that he hits disaster full in the face.

While the plot of Due Date has got significant similarities to 80s classic Trains Planes and Automobiles, the cast will probably make it a very different film, especially Galifianakis and McBride.

Due Date has a cinema release date of 5th November 2010 in the UK, so it’ll have to compete against fireworks and bonfires for first night takings. The big test will be how well Robert Downey, Jr. can switch from action roles like Tony Stark and Sherlock holes, both of which had comedy elements, to an out and out comedy like Due Date.
