Hogwarts Legacy photo mode latest and how to take pictures

Hogwarts Legacy photo mode and how to take pictures

There’s a lot to get excited about when it comes to the look and feel of Hogwarts Legacy, so here’s everything we know about the potential of a photo mode and how to take pictures. The castle like main building is iconic in itself, but with such a huge and magical open world environment you’re going to want to capture your experiences and share them with the world.

Set in the hidden wilds of Scotland surrounding Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry there’s everything from Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest to craggy peaks, crashing seas and cascading waterfalls to photograph. Picturesque villages dot the landscape and that’s all before the addition of the more magical aspects of Hogwarts Legacy.

Duels with dark wizards and the discovery of fantastic beasts will all cry out for a snap or two. With all of this it seems like an obvious title for photo mode fun. Sadly that’s not the case at the time of writing, so here’s the latest we have from the developers and what it means for how to take pictures in the game.

Will Hogwarts Legacy have a photo mode?

It’s not all good news as of yet, but from what we’ve seen there’s bound to be an announcement for Hogwarts Legacy in the not too distant future. As things stand, there is no specific in-game photo mode being released with the game, but that’s kind of the norm these days.

Production is usually focused on delivering the game itself with as much quality as possible. This means that games often first come out without a photo mode and then add one in later on down the line when they’re happy with the finished article.

The most recent example was God of War Ragnarok, which launched on the 9th November 2022 with no photo mode. Taking pictures in the previous game in the series was a big part of the fun, and it didn’t take Santa Monica Studios that long to add in the functionality.

By mid December 2022 an update came out to add in the photo mode and it has once again been a big part of the post-game enjoyment. We’re hoping that this will be the case for Hogwarts Legacy too with a post-release update from developers Portkey Games.

There’s no official word from them or distributor Warner Brothers Games as of yet about a system to allow you to take pictures, but there are hints to take into account. For example, a recent comment on the WB Games Support Twitter page said that they had no details on photo mode, but to watch out for updates in the not too distant future.

It would be a huge missed opportunity not to add in the functionality at some time, so watch this space for more details. If you look at the God of War Ragnarok example then we might be looking at mid-March 2023 in terms of when we might get the Hogwarts Legacy photo mode.

How to take pictures

In the absence of a specific photo mode in Hogwarts Legacy, your options are reduced, but not entirely removed. The good news is that on every console there is a share function, which allows you to take pictures of your gaming action even when there is now specific mode to use.

If you don’t know how they work, you can see details for how to take pictures on PlayStation and Xbox consoles with the details below. The release date for the game is a bit mixed with the initial launch in February only being for the PS5, Xbox Series S|X and PC.

The PS4 and Xbox ONE versions of the game don’t come out until April 2023, so it’s possible that the photo mode will be available before then. It’s a similar story for the Nintendo Switch release, which is planned to release on the 25th July 2023. However, we’ve added in details on how to take pictures on them just in case:

  • PlayStation Consoles – press the share button (the left hand side equivalent to the menu button for both PS4 and PS5) and follow the on-screen prompts to take pictures.
  • Xbox Consoles – press the share button (the left hand side equivalent to the menu button for both Xbox ONE and Series S|X) and follow the on-screen prompts to take pictures.
  • Nintendo Switch – press the capture button.
