Marvel’s The Defenders trailer 2 is just in

Marvel's The DefendersAdding to the potential of The Punisher making his return in a potential cameo, Netflix has now released the Marvel’s The Defenders trailer 2, which gives us our most in-depth look at the upcoming original series. We’d already seen Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and the Iron Fist in action together in the first trailer, but the new video shows off much more of the context to the story, as well as two new additions, Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho ) and Bakuto (Ramón Rodríguez).

Gao makes her appearance with the main antagonist for the series, Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver, so it looks like the two might be working together. It definitely points to the prospect of some sort of union between Alexandra’s Midland Circle Financial and The Hand, especially with Bakuto also putting in an appearance in trailer 2.

Marvel’s The Defenders trailer 2:

He only features in the trailer for a split second or two in a scene with him fighting Colleen Wing, but with another scene featuring Iron Fist talking over the top saying, “they’re hunting our friends, our families, and they’re not going to stop there”. It sets things up as the four Defenders being brought together as they’re nearest and dearest are being attacked.

You can also see Foggy and Karen looking distraught, Claire Temple looking like she’s in danger and Trish staring down at a messy car accident. Clearly, there’s going to be a big shake down from the underworld power base of The Hand and MCF and the four heroes will need to unite to protect they’re loved ones.

However, the biggest sign of intent is the dialogue on war by Alexandra at the beginning of trailer 2. It’s not the only time war is mentioned in the trailer and it sounds like New York is going to be in the balance as the sinister organisations try to secure one of their most important locations.

Stick (played by Scott Glenn) seems to be one of the uniting forces of the superhero team as he tries to lead the fight back. He’s always been focused on stopping The Hand, so his appearance in the trailer is another good indicator that they’re at the heart of the enemy operation.

Elektra (Elodie Yung) is another big feature of trailer 2, following on from the teaser shots of her in the first trailer and she’s definitely fighting on the bad side of the divide with a scene showing her with Alexandra. However, it looks like she’s under some kind of spell or control and Matt is going to be trying to bring her back to some semblance of good.

As ever, things look like they’re going to be pretty complex in Marvel’s The Defenders and there’s bound to be losses along the way. The line from Stick where he talks about “more death is coming” would imply that by that stage there’s already been a casualty or two, but we’ll have to wait until the release date on the 18th August 2017 to find out who it was.
