Who plays Worzel Gummidge?

First up is Worzel Gummidge, obviously, and he’s played by Mackenzie Crook who you will no doubt recognise from The Office along with Pirates of the Caribbean and BBC One’s The Detectorists. In addition to starring in the main role he is also the driving force behind the creation of the remake acting as the writer and director for the show, so it’s going to be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Aunt Sally

While Mackenzie is very easily recognised even in Worzel Gummidge form, you might not know who plays Aunt Sally and in all fairness the actress isn’t as well known as a main star. Vicki Pepperdine has taken on the role and her previous work includes starting in and writing the story BBC Four satirical comedy, Getting On. She also plays Betty in goodbye Christopher Robin and Lydia in Jonny English Strikes Again.

The Green Man

This one should be another that is fairly easy to recognise with Michael Palin in the role of the Green Man. His most recent acting role was in The Death of Stalin and it’s good to see him back on the BBC once again following his Monty Python days.

Lady Bloomsbury Barton

The eccentric aristocrats Lady Bloomsbury Barton is played by Zoë Wanamaker who you’ll recognise as either the mum from My Family or Madame Hooch in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She also starred in My Week With Marilyn playing Marilyn Monroe’s acting coach, Paula Strasberg.

Mr Braithwaite

In terms of who plays who in Worzel Gummidge, the casting of Steve Pemberton of is one that is fairly easy to call for any League of Gentlemen fans out there. He’s had yet more BBC success in recent years with Inside No. 9, and Psychoville before it, so he’s a great addition to the Worzel Gummidge remake cast.

John

Newcomer Thierry Wickens plays John (also pictured above), the second of the two children whose worlds get flipped when they discover that Worzel Gummidge is alive.

Earthy Mangold

Francesca Mills plays Earthy Mangold. Her previous credits include Zoolander 2 where she played an Elf huntress and Star Wars: The Force Awakens where she was one of the bar patrons at Maz Kanata’s castle.
